I feel like I saw somewhere that OSU fans were voted most annoying fan base in the country. Makes sense, I've always had them in top 5 at least

I've never understood what point OSU was trying to make.
Did someone claim there was another Ohio State University?
And isn't just about every "University of" really "The University of?"

no, it isn't. Quite a few knock off apparel companies are printing shirts with "The" in the middle of an outline of the state of Ohio. Ohio State wants to be able to make shirts and hats like that without other companies being able to do a copy of the merchandise. It has nothing to do with other schools using "The" before the name of the university.
BTW, this became common among pro football players who are alumni because the actual name of the school is The Ohio State University.
LSU is Louisiana State University so use of the word "The" wouldn't be appropriate anyway.
