I love it when the racism excuse fails. I especially love that he got even more time for trying to use it.

Gonna try that next time I fight a traffic ticket. Except "your honor" would be more fitting. Just "judge" seems trashy.

requisite regular mental health therapy. there have been loads of breakthroughs with psychedelic therapy, this is a good place to start.

we also need to realize that while they've done terrible things, most have had terrible things done to them and many are dealing with ptsd, etc. i don't think most folks understand the terrible situations from which these people come. i'm not excusing their behavior, but explaining and trying to better understand it.

99% of criminals will serve their time and get out, we want them to be prepared to be a functional, mentally healthy member of society who contributes and is not a danger to the public. the prison system as it is now does not come close to that, and in most cases just makes them worse.

in the end, it's cheaper and safer for us to rehabilitate. plus, isn't that what jesus would have done?

That was his fourth time him front of the same judge as a convicted felon. Ohio needs 3 strikes, you're out law.

If they want to be rehabilitated. Perhaps make prison a place so horrible that they don't want to ever go back The excuse that their life is hard and where they came from, doesn't fly with me. If that was the case every person who has had it hard would be in prison. Are there better ways of doing things, I'm sure there are but I would bet that if prison was a place you feared going to, things might change. Who knows?

this doesn't work. it's never worked in the history of humanity. this only makes people more hateful.

now i know you don't understand where some of these folks come from. it's often just as bad as prison, and they get credibility and seniority for going there.

the system is broken, and doing the same things will not fix it. do you not know how terrible places like angola, sing sing, etc are? there's very little in the world worse than these places, yet people still return.

he excuse that their life is hard and where they came from, doesn't fly with me. If that was the case every person who has had it hard would be in prison

like i said, it's not an excuse but an explanation. many young kids don't know any better, it's all they see and understand; and by the time they reach HS they already have a record. authorities(judges, police, etc.) treat them like shite, nobody respects them or shows them love except for when they do bad things. people need to feel loved and part of something, even if that means doing awful things to get it.

we need to change the way they think about the world and their fellow man, and making prisons worse only makes them worse people.

I'm going to assume you think I don't know where some of these people come from, Wrong. Everyone has a choice. Good, bad or indifferent. I have been around it quite a bit. Are you going to keep making excuses for peoples bad behaviors? Since, in your opinion, prisons don't work what actually has a realistic chance of working? You say rehabilitation. That should start with growing up and being held accountable for one's actions. Don't wait until they actually commit a crime. It's usually too late then. I don't care if it makes people more hateful, that's your assumption. I'm sure the people the crime was committed against don't give a damn either. This victim mentality for those who break the law is a joke. Maybe if certain people started getting off their lazy arses and do something actually productive with their lives, then things might get better. So damn sick of the feeling sorry for idiots who commit crimes (repeatedly). Don't want to do time, don't commit the crime.

And respect is earned. Maybe if certain people took care of business and stopped repeating the same behaviors, there might be more respect and self worth. I've seen bad things does that make it okay for me to go and do them? No, it's an excuse.

No it's not. If it were about public safety he would've been given the time right away. He was already given a 22yr sentence it's not like he's going to be out next week. It's absolutely about "disrespecting the court".

He didn't get 6 years for calling the judge a bitch, that would be overturned on appeal with the quickness. All of the time he received in prison was a result of his decision to break into someone's home and kidnap/hold them hostage and most likely in addition to a lengthy criminal history

He was already given 22yrs, then had his outburst, then had 6 years added on.

Seems the judge thought he was remorseful and didn't give him a harsher sentence until he opened his mouth and proved that he wasn't remorseful at all. No one to blame here but himself.
