Maybe the judge revoked his lenient sentence after it was clear the guy was not remorseful.

That's his excuse, but you can be remorseful for the crime and still be pissed off at the judge when sentenced.

The criminal is obviously an idiot, and I'm not trying to defend him. I simply believe the arbitrary nature of the sentencing is ridiculous too.

6 years in prison for calling someone a bitch. Can you imagine literally any other profession with that sort of power? 1yr, fine. 6yrs, not so much.

Reminds me of a guy in Georgia that got into it with the judge. Here’s Judge Morty with a re-creation from the actual transcript.

I get that but like the crime he committed, if wouldn't have done anything, he wouldn't be penalized. You know, play stupid games, win stupid prizes stuff.

And again, I agree. What good was it going to do him ranting like a 2 year old to the judge? He should've kept his idiotic mouth shut.

considering the outburst 12 months prior, his most recent convictions and his current outburst, I would contend he should be looking at 50 years to life.

He is a menace.

Do you understand his track record?

He's disrespectful - so what? 6 additional years for an outburst after being sentenced is ridiculous.

It would be one thing if he said he's glad he did it and would have done it again or something, but his tirade was directed only at the judge.

If you want to argue the original sentence was too light given his track record, that's a different story altogether. Getting the additional 6 is where I have a problem.

I think motivation for the added time is being mistaken. This is not so much about the judge being insulted and wanting to "hit back". It's more about seeing that this guy obviously has impulse control problems, the same issue that drove him to commit the original crime. If the crime is driven by a desperate personal situation, that could be grounds for leniency. Displaying a deeper problem, possibly an intrinsic behavioral pattern makes this guy more likely to do it again. It's about public safety.

and more prison time won't change that. prison should be about recognizing your crimes and changing who you are. now it's all about survival and people become worse than what they were. it's an unsustainable model like the war on drugs.

What do you propose to fix it? Serious question

He seems like the kind of guy to do something irrational.

Maybe they are related.

She is even worse. Getting that upset over waiting on fries. Some people are truly oxygen thieves.

Watch the video and read his criminal history then rethink that. Right before his outburst and the sentencing he told the judge "I respect your decision". Then the verdict was given and he went nuts. The judge then chose to impose the maximum sentence. That's his choice to make.

Six years in prison to up the sentence to the maximum because, in his determination (and mine after I saw the video) he was not remorseful for his actions.

I saw the video. The guy went nuts on the judge, the judge gave him 6 additional years and justified it with a lack of remorse.

I contend he should have given him 28 years originally, of kept it at 22 years after the outburst. The outburst is a separate incident that occurred after sentencing.

He didn't get 6 years for calling the judge a bitch, that would be overturned on appeal with the quickness. All of the time he received in prison was a result of his decision to break into someone's home and kidnap/hold them hostage and most likely in addition to a lengthy criminal history

, what's the fun in that?

But like I said, I don't have any sympathy for the criminal, I just question the principles of the matter.
