They are both about to lose that title to Beijing Capital Airport.

Atlanta should build a 2nd airport

Will never happen.

The only chance a second commercial airport in the Atlanta area could happen is if the Air Force shuts down Dobbins AFB in Marietta. There has been musings of making it a commercial airport because it has a lot of land around it, good access highways, and a long 10,000 ft runway.

But even if that happens, which is unlikely because the AF and government like Dobbins and the Lockheed plant is there too, there would be a very difficult approval process. People in Marietta would oppose it and Delta and Atlanta would bring massive political pressure to prevent it.

Someone from overseas that lands at Ohare, LAX, or JFK must be horrified with America.

Possibly not.

Capital’s surging growth is about to level off due to Beijing opening up Daxing Airport on the other side of the city next year. Daxing is a massive airport (largest in world) and will split the volume with Capital. Both airports are expected to carry 100M passengers.

Daxing:

And where exactly would we put one without pissing off the local residents?

Is Charlie Brown airport too small to create a viable option?

A direct flight to ORD from Lafayette would be great. New terminal is an opportunity maybe. Put a 50 seater on it 5 times a week

Just fly United like the rest of us and you won’t have to change terminals (actually sometimes you have to go to 2 which sucks but rare).

I like flying out of ohare because taking the blue line from my house downtown is so damn easy and I never have to worry about my car or anything. The airport is pretty meh but I can fly pretty much anywhere in the world direct, it’s def convienient.

Yes, and also too close to Hartsfield.

Most of the proponents of a second Atlanta airport want it on the north side of town (Brown is west of the city).

CLT and DEN are the worst. Never had any issues with ORD.

Word of mouth but I have a close friend who works under the gold dome in Atlanta with the state senate. Its one of the things that has been talked about up there instead of another Hartsfield expansion. They are talking about creating a big transit authority to deal with just the airports in Atlanta and run them with the possibility MARTA may run under it too. Right now Hartsfield has 3 separate entities that control it, Fulton and Clayton counties and the city of College Park. All 3 of these run competing bids for certain vending (think restaurant) services at Hartsfield and there is a ton of corruption between the governments in the process.

Its not as efficient this way and they want to make it similar to the Port of New York Transit Authority which handles all cargo that comes to the port because it comes to both New York and New Jersey. One of the other things they have discussed is an airport expansion and whether or not it would be more prudent to build a cargo airport to the north of the city instead of jamming it in another runway at Hartsfield.

Right now they are in the process of doing study committees on this proposed transit authority so we are talking many years out.

O'Hare sucks

So does Atlanta. I hate flying through big airports. You have to wait on gates, takes forever to taxi and deplane, the airport is a crowded cluster, typically not good restaurants (Charlotte is probably the best).
