This flight was in no way a high profile terrorist target.

The same could be said of any of the 911 flights. There was nothing special about those flights either.

per an article (washington post i believe) linked earlier in this thread, the plane in question did not have wifi capabilities.

I'm researching that now. It looks like they DID have online accessibility to Temptations Online purchasing If that's the case, that's all they would need, as according to the wifi warning, in order to communicate out there would be a security issue.

LINK

I was thinking it would just be magazines but I am reading purchases could be made online during flight.

Or possibly refurbed an old ww2 island base. of which there are many left over.

Nice thought. I had forgotten about all the old runways on little piece of shite islands out there. So good I almost want to switch to the "OFMG its the terrorists!!!!" camp. Almost.

Yes, to a secret 777 class runway no one saw being built. (Sarcasm)

Sure, someone may have built a 777 class runway without no one noticing, sure someone may have hijacked a plane, sure someone may know the protocols of in flight piloting, radar contact, etc.

The odds someone pulled off all of these is nearly zero.

Well of course I could be wrong. Malaysia is packed full of tyrants and Indonesia could be a prime target. The open seas are another prime target. Way to get back at them for all the senseless drownings to mankind.

We aren't talking about Kansas here. We are talking about Jungles and countries that have heavy areas of anti-American sentiment.

This would be a good time for 777Tiger to show up. He hasn't been around since last September.

How big of a wave would be created from a 777 nosediving into the ocean ?

The only way the terrorism angle works is if something went wrong or you're saving the method for future use.

Because at some point, you have to claim responsibility to be able to "terrorize" people into bowing to your demands.

Yeah, even if the attempt failed, you can't terrorize people if they have no clue something devious occurred. Someone would have claimed responsibility IMO.

Jesus christ. These runways are HUGE, and take manpower to build.

This is Dr. Evil from Austin Powers from his secret volcano lair type stuff y'all are hypothesizing about.

I agree its not likely, but at this point all options should be considered.

Besides, we are not necessarily talking about a 777 class runway that you would built at an airport. Just something to get the plane down in one piece.

Still, my money is on a crash in the ocean.

Which is what he is saying

quote:

Because at some point, you have to claim responsibility to be able to "terrorize" people into bowing to your demands.

If no one knows why or who is dropping planes, sure they are scared shitless, but they have no reason to change anything they do (besides flying) to help your agenda if they don't know it exists.

Aside from several assumptions in the quote above which concede you may be wrong, if people were to stop flying that WOULD change something we do. That would devastate our economy.

Not big enough when the nearest land could be hundreds of miles away.

It's not like a tsunami.

AQ didn't claim responsibility for 911 until quite a bit later, and then only via an indirect statement by OBL.

the notion that terrorists built some secret runway big enough for a 777 is pretty outrageous... with spy satelites of today, and the manpower/coordination something like that would take, there's just no way that could go undetected.

Unless the plan hasn't fully developed yet to the point where anyone would announce their claim.

Uhh...entire countries and jungles are HUGER. And people live there.

I'm not saying it IS terrorism, but I am not about to start a baseless argument stating it ISN'T because I'm "dug into that stance".
