Hopefully one major change that comes from this is that a plane will always be tracked in some way.
One could hope that was the case. I would have thought that it was already the case. As someone who travels internationally, this situation scares me.

Chicken I am on a plane right now and in agreement with you. For all the miles I have flown it comes as a shock some dumbass can end my life by flipping a switch and taking all the oxygen out of the plane. Although dead I would hope my body found and placed in the proper location

He can also ram the plane into the ground and kill you pretty easy too, would you rather fall asleep or live through the sudden drop and quick stop?
Pilots have to be able to make complicated decisions when automatic systems fail, they need the manual control of pressurization to be able to save your life if the computer fricks up.
Lots of people have control over your life if you woke up to the realization of how much control you give up without even taking the time to realize it...

Do you fall asleep or do you fight for air when plane is decompressed?
Posted on 3/17/14 at 9:59 am to longhorn22
The plane didn't have Wifi capabilities.

Regarding shadowing another plane, how easy is it to do that? Does the 777 have a radar data that lets them see location of other planes around them?
if you click the link i last posted...the guy basically asserts that it's not too terribly difficult given all of the other variables. i'm becoming more and more convinced that this is what happened.

still...people often use the "check in" function on FB when they are at an airport before flying....just lil info like this may help or lead to something......
Last night the video of the two pilots going through security at the airport was released and everything looked normal and chill.

The terrorist types seem to be innovative in the exploitation of what we believe is possible and not possible.
We are thinking X, but they are already ahead of the curve and thinking Y.
I suppose it's impossible to plan for every type of nefarious act. But, we (the people) perhaps need to think more out of the box when it comes to figuring out these guys.
Standard procedure seems to be not working here.

777 on international flights normally do not have wifi setup although it is my understanding this is changing
But I find if I type text or email with no wifi, the message or email transmits when I reach a location with internet. But again if plane hit water no transmission or landed in some remote area no transmission

We also learned the Captain's family moved out of their house the day before the plane disappeared.
Yes, but I haven't seen it answered yet... Do authorities know where the family is or have they disappeared.
Know where they are = Lends credence to suicide bc pilot was distraught
Don't know = Hijacking and family is wherever he is

I can't find out that either, been looking, the best I could find was the maid said they went to a second home or some shite.

They do know where the family is located. The Malaysian government has spoken with them.
No way this is just suicide. It took too many people to be involved and the plane movements were deliberate enough to know that it wasn't suicide.

I bet more passengers will start following the plane tracker on the inflight monitors. I see the plane diverting a little guess I will be arrested for banging on cockpit door, "Hey u Muslim MFer, put the plane back on the straight path". "sir take your seat he is getting in position to land". "Oh ok, my bad"

For a 777 (based on what I've read) shadowing another plane would be impossible.
unlikely but not impossible.
It is big, but lets say it's at night and the 777 has no lights on. While you as a pilot have wing strobes, and all night lights except landing on. You look out your window, think you may see a large shadow 500 yards behind and a little below but the strobe flashes and you again see nothing. You look at your Box (ACAS) and see no other planes in the vicinity. Knowing that anything as high as you would be transponder equipped, you think nothing of it and get back to going over the instruments and doing checklist stuff.
It is hard to do, but not impossible.
Secondary radar sees a 777, primary radar sees a large blip, but as it is identifying itself and is in proper lanes, and height and because at this time there is not yet a missing plane, the Indian and central Asian radar operators think little of it.
Again, there is a great likelihood this thing is at the bottom of the Indian Ocean. But everyday there is something else that points out this was a well planned event. Not just some crazy suicide or pilot revenge.
Co-pilot made contact via radio. Yet pilot is one most likely suspected due to light simulator and extensive hours.
They intentionally went around secondary radar installations.

This plane also didn't have inflight flight tracker.
Have you people followed this story at all? It wasn't a luxury 777 flying from manhattan to LAX.

So I've been out of the loop all weekend...what's the latest on this?
I saw something on FB this morning that said it seems like I may have been hijacked and flying low to avoid radar now. Is that confirmed?
Anything else new since Friday?
If this has been asked already (and I'm sure it has), just link me to a summation/cliffnotes post.
