They mentioned lithium on fox news. Doesn't seem like that would be too special though

Unless you need a neutron initiator for a early generation fission bomb. The exact type of nuke a terrorist group would try to build, but there are much easier ways to get it.

So, the most valuable thing on the plane that anyone would want would be...what?

I only missed by two posts. That's much closer than the Malaysian authorities would have been.

I can see this a hijacking gone awry and crashing in the process, but I don't buy that they landed this somewhere. This thing isn't a helicopter that can be landed anywhere.

1. It needs a long runway
2. It couldn't be landed at a major airport and hidden let alone avoid being seen or heard by some random person while on approach
3. A government would notice terrorists building a giant runway on some deserted island

Only thing about that is we assume this would have had to have been planned for months...perhaps years. How could they have known that 20 experts on cloaking would be on that plane far enough in advance to set it all in motion? I guess it is plausible that these bookings were made months ago and the terrorists were ready but just waiting for the right opportunity. But then you are faced with the question "How could they have insured that this particular pilot would fly that particular plane with those 20 on board?"

There are a lot of airfields left over from WWII that could be quickly adapted from what I've read on here.

Bingo.

Could this particular plane have been transporting very valuable cargo?

Somebody in the USN is very interested in that plane. The question is why.

where do you get fuel for this? rouge state
where do you hide this plane? rouge state
why do you want such long range? when you have a nuke on board being able to have the fuel to hit secondary targets if the first is somehow not optimum

I'm still going with hole in plane causing slow cabin depressurization. pilot tried to turn back, passed out and autopilot flew it till gas ran out. Bottom of the Indian ocean now. It's the only thing that makes sense. Pilots were reported mumbling, remember......

Giant runway? It can be landed in 4500 feet, if unloaded of cargo an passengers it could get wheels off the ground in the same distance then hold it close to the ground or ocean while building enough air speed for climb out..

There are hundreds of suitable runways many abandoned in range of the plane. This has all been covered in the last 200 pages!

So govt officials say hijacking is conclusive and you're still going with that?

But that doesn't explain the systematic shutdown of the systems, starting with the transponder.
