Military radar has it recorded.

Here is a plausible situation, the plane was successfully hijacked for some purpose and has landed on a deserted island. Military and intelligence groups have now located it, but not knowing if the passengers are still alive cannot make public that it has been found while a insertion team is being staged to go into the location for possible hostage rescue.

I ask again, WHY would it have to be a 777 for a weapons delivery system?

Malaysian officials are all over this

The flight simulator guy just crushed every hope I had that these passengers are alive.

FWIW it's early afternoon in that part of the world.
Not unusual timing if those time for these type of announcements

Why hijack the plane and hold hostages and not give out demands?
IF the plane is on land intact somewhere, there are no hostages alive.
IF the plane is on land intact somewhere, there are no hostages alive.

Fox News Alert says the same

While you watch CNN speculate with a video game, FOX is reporting actual reports.

Think of all the places you could hit with 777 jet?
You could hit half the countries on the globe.

I really don't have much hope the passengers are alive and haven't from day 1. But as crazy as this whole week has been who knows?

Soooo....the only reason it would be stolen is for a weapons delivery system. What kind of weapon could be delivered by a 777 that couldn't be delivered by a 737. And I know the size difference, but the 737 stripped down can carry a LOT of weight.
Range, 7900 miles for the 777 vs 3800 miles for 737.
Want to fly a nuke from a Indian Ocean Island to NYC, you want the 777

A 737 has a range of over 3000 nautical miles and can be had for $500,000.

You want to use the plane for some other purpose maybe at a much later date and the best cover is for the world to believe it crashed in the ocean.

There are no hostages.
If the plane stayed above or around 45,000 feet for a long enough time period then all the passengers are dead. The mission could have been to steal a 777?

That won't get you from the Indian Ocean to New York, are many other desirable targets.
