Think of all the places you could hit with 777 jet?
You could hit half the countries on the globe.
That doesn't make sense. You can fly a $500,000 737 within 3000 nautical miles of a target without raising any suspicion whatsoever.
Thousands are looking for the missing 777.

A fully loaded 777 I think can make a flight from Sydney to Dallas I don't know how that translate into range from India but it would be possible to make to the west coast I think

Somebody's gotta pay for all that fuel. A transaction like that would be noticed by intelligence agencies.

Ive always believed the hijaking angle once it was reported the transponders were turned off

Just wait a couple years ppl will slowly start to forget then bam

I think his point is that you can legally acquire a much smaller plane for a lot less effort and money than this operation would presumably have taken and just made your doomsday mission over a couple of refueling stops.

Beejon,
I think he was referring to the fact of an attack at a later date. 6 months, a yr, 3 yrs etc.
At that point in the future, having the ability to fly 7900 miles loaded down with a mass killer rather than only 3900 miles. Opens up to more target range.

I was just giving range because it was talked about, I don't think that plane could land and go unnoticed for 8 days when Everyone is looking for it. It crashed the question still remains where?

McInerney thinks it landed somewhere
This is crazy stuff

You could buy a used 737, fly it easily to within 3000 nautical miles of New York or any target within the United States without suspicion though. Heck, you could fly it to New York without suspicion. On the other hand, a 777 approaching the United States without a flight plan, or any aircraft for that matter, would immediately scramble jets for intercept.
It makes no sense to use a stolen 777 as a weapons system in the majority of the world.

If we look at all the hijacked planes on 911, what was the common theme of plot? Hijack the biggest planes possible while traveling a short distance to maximizes the explosiveness of high fuel levels.

Malaysians are now saying the plane was hijacked

Why would a undocumented 737 be unnoticed by us?
Every single plane even private planes are tracked by the FAA you can't sneak a plane into the United States unnoticed.

Pilot just said that the pilots have the ability to depressurize the cabin and kill everyone with the push of a button.
That's scary as fricking hell that it's that easy.

I think govt officials know where the plane is
Posted on 3/14/14 at 11:28 pm to catholictigerfan
Exactly. Maybe I'm naive on all of this but some seem to be acting as if a 737 is like a damn crop duster flown by some terrorist version of Randy Quaid.

Seeing as there is no "good" use for that feature, maybe future planes can have a different setup.

Well, the OT figured that out before they did but I'm still waiting on China and the US. The Malaysians cannot be trusted in this situation any longer.

Well not only that but think of the threat of a common 737 loaded with nukes which doesn't raise suspicion as it flies over New York. Take off from London or Montreal or Mexico City (now there's a place to worry about with the cartels) and detonate the weapon without any suspicion whatsoever.
The point is, one doesn't need to hijack a 777 to do this. It would be relatively easy to do it with a number of old used airliners on the market today. Legally, so to speak.
