That's pretty weird. What kinda work are they going to do for a month without children present?

We still have to come to work everyday. We will responsible for providing online instruction. Now, I don't know who will be responsible for most of the students actually doing it. I'm sensing that this is still very much fluid.

Absolutely. Their contracts are yearly, not by the hour.
Right, yearly with the expectation that they complete a certain number of hours worked though, right?

That makes much more sense. Seems like it'll be hard to enforce. Hard to imagine that the government made a rash decision without much planning beforehand...

I believe that teachers have to report early next week to receive training in Google Classroom and then will conduct remote classes from home.

I don’t think they are going to school for the entire three weeks.

Many states are issuing waivers so that time doesn’t have to be made up.

Google classroom tracks who logs in and students will have to send in classwork. Our schools already use online quizzes that are tracked by their student ID and login. They were only used for in class test prep but will likely be used for actual testing now. Bottom line - there are ways to track this.

Right, but you know there will be people claiming they don't have the internet, or a computer, or some stupid excuse as to why they can't do it.

You do realize there are tons of kids who don’t have the internet or a computer, right? They all have their phone but they rely on wifi. You must have gone to private school.

Are you old enough to remember correspondence courses? Those can and likely will be used. Course packets can be picked up, printed out, etc and dropped off at school at end of week.

I don't know if it's age, or we just didn't have that. I'm 32.

We just had a staff meeting and were told that since it’s a national emergency the governor had the power to exempt the days missed and that the school year will not be extended. As teachers, we don’t have to report on Monday because all the district bigwigs will be meeting to come up with a plan, but we do have to report to work starting Tuesday. The only days we’re off is for our scheduled Spring Break which is April 6-10.

I think it’s age. I’m 45 and it was already phasing out when I was in school. But it will be an effective way to approach at home learning for those who don’t have access to internet or e-learning.

My kids have been issued Cromebooks from the school to complete their work.

I imagine I will have to pick up more work to make up for the parents that can't come in because they have to watch their kids.

Just held an emergency PTA meeting ( ) to reallocate funding to purchase iPads needed for students who don’t have available equipment at home.

My kids said they distributed laptops to those that needed them yesterday. I'm not sure why because there hasn't been any mention of online classes but maybe they're still trying to set it up.
