Was there. In traffic at that intersection. Didn’t see the lead up to know what happened but about a half dozen loud pops and police were there incredibly fast and in huge volume. I’m talking cars as well as on foot. They swept into the scene QUICK.

Just heard a report that it was potentially shop lifting related. I guess stole stuff hopped in the car and the officer lit up the car from there?

New Orleans is such a shithole that police shootings happen regularly on one of its most popular tourist streets

Canal Street should be (for New Orleans) in the same vein as the Miracle Mile, Fifth Avenue, etc. It’s the gateway into the city, and formerly the home of the highest end shopping, great restaurants and hotels, foyer to the Mississippi riverfront, etc. Instead it’s one of the shittiest and least safe spots in town. I’d rather walk Bourbon at midnight than Canal. Such a shame.

New Orleans and Baton Rouge both suck. So does Shreveport. So does most of Lafayette. So does Monroe. So do all of the towns that are still stuck in 1868 along the delta; do does the majority of SW LA.

I have made one discovery and the only true small city/town of any kind that I would not be afraid to walk at night with my kids is Nathcitoches. The ONLY wholesome city and college town left. I am telling you.

I’m a little curious what happened in the car to justify opening fire in a crowd like that.

a fricking cheese dick with a gun is what happened. there are hundreds of cameras in canal place, dozens of cameras and plate readers along canal, but cowboy here wants to be a hero and stop some shitstains with $500 in stolen merch using deadly force on the busiest, safest, perhaps most populated intersection in all of downtown.

Seriously, how often do shootings occur in major European cities?

I already know in Tokyo, there are no shootings.

I think you would be fine walking the streets of Ruston at night.
