$100,000,000 doesn't last long in the hands of fools.

They don't need a manager. That's their agent's job.

Chef is definitely a luxury. I would bet the percentage of players who actually have a personal chef is pretty damn low. The nutritionist on the team training staff can give them all the info they need on diet and stuff to cook at home.

The trainer is kind of a toss up. I can see a need for a personal trainer for players who live elsewhere in the offseason or that don't want to keep switching trainers when they end up on a new team. But its still somewhat of a luxury since the team has an entire training staff that the players can work with if they want to. Guys on minimum salary contracts aren't blowing money on personal trainers.

Dude stopped wanting to play football sometime during his stint with the Browns and signed with, what, three teams after that?

This isn’t a young 20-something blowing his first contract. He’s an idiot who had plenty of time to choose not to be an idiot.

Until BK ruined LSU, pros would often come to BR to workout

Guys on minimum salaries don’t get $100 million dollar contracts either. Investing in your body when you’re an athlete is exactly that, an investment. It’s a real cost of doing business that they should plan for, but it’s an example of another expense off the top of their gross earnings

Almost 40% to taxes and 3% to your agent (NFL contract, much higher for endorsements), manager, chef, trainer, etc.

Don’t forget about the annual $100,000 property tax bill on the Malibu mansion

Even the guaranteed money isn't really guaranteed either.

When is guaranteed money not really guaranteed?

Besides a player quitting, retiring, getting into off field criminal trouble, or getting hurt participating in activities prohibited in the contract....what other circumstances would guaranteed money not be paid out?

Its true, I always heard "never give money to people who ask" Because if they are not ashamed to ask they are not ashamed of doing what they did to need to ask for money.

I know that's not always the rule, but its a guideline to keep in mind.

First of all it’s only $50 million after taxes. Your point is still a good one.

Inexperienced, perhaps a bit ignorant....not sure stupid is the right word.

A lot of these kids come from poor arse backgrounds from families with very little money or money management skills. Lord knows our school system doesn't teach basic personal finance. They aren't taking those courses in college. They step into big NFL money (NIL money now) with no training as to what to do with it outside of a rookie class on money management. Just like poor money management is generational in the general population, so it is when those same families come into some loot.

All that said, if you're making the money Beckham made, which is the exception, you damn sure better have hired a financial adviser or accountant to handle your finances. Absolutely zero reason to be going that alone.

He should know better because he went to the most expensive private high school in the state and grew up with nothing but rich kid friends.
