In writing emails or forms, I use, “asap” to mean, when it’s convenient, but don’t forget about it.

And I use, “ASAP”, if it’s fairly urgent.

If it’s an emergency, need it now type situation, I call.

I knew this guy that would use the term "let's put some girth behind that" if he or someone else voiced an idea he liked. So consequently, no one ever really spoke up all that much.

We didn't want any girth behind us.

Girth is a word whose usefulness has been ruined for normal use. It really only means one thing….

I've grown very tired of "Please advise." I can't shake the sense that it's confrontational. You sent the email, my role is to respond, (unless it just has "FYI" lol) why would you add "Please advise?"

Now what would be crazy is if someone forwarded something with "FYI, please advise."

ASAP means now
ASAR means add it to your list

This place is at rock bottom in the fricking gutter when inhabitants struggle to understand the meaning of ASAP and start threads about it.

Based on the responses it’s a fairly common thought. Sorry to upset you.

FYI - this is usually intended as a heads up or quick note, but “For Your Information” sounds kinda condescending or abrasive.

Funny you mentioned that as I actively avoid it in all correspondence and usually on forum posts because it always seems slightly holier than thou*. The last thing I want is someone quietly miffed at me when all I was trying to do was tell them to go frick themselves.

* I am pretty good at doing that without using an acronym.

What’s even more bothersome is just people that don’t read attachments. Just sent someone a quote with freight included. Emails me back asking me how much the freight is. Brah. Read the fricking quote.

ASAP means the opposite of "drop what you're doing"

It means do it as soon as you can that doesn't change your current plans.

If I need it now I say I need it immediately.

Eh, this one can be iffy. Some servers block attachments or require additional user input. Id just reply with "my last email had an attachment with that information. Did you receive it?" Chances are they missed it, but shite happens sometimes.

ASAP in real life & ASAP in email mean two different things. But I still get salty about it

Got a guy at DOTD who sends me emails regularly. They are ALL marked "urgent." Gives me that annoying little red exclamation point in Outlook. Doesn't matter if we're discussing work that's 5 years away--everything is marked highest priority.

Regulators/beaurocrats in general are lacking in the area of communication, over-value themselves and have little-no credibility. Give them the minimum info required, right before the deadline. I've always found they are very slow in responding to requests and are just generally lame...with a few exceptions. If they become obnoxious, drill them with concise email, telling them they'll get what they need.

Another is "gental reminder " or other reminder something is needed soon. Keep your pants on...if you gave folks a specific time to complete something, wait until after that time to follow-up. People send so many unnecessary time-wasting emails.

Also, when something is owed to someone else, tell them when you'll complete/deliver it and to leave you alone until then.

Which illustrates the depths of the intellectual despair in this place.

It is honestly inconceivable to me that a man could hold a job in which he receives company email and not clearly understand the universal meaning of ASAP.
