One of the coolest wildcat species in the world IMO. I hope we can bring them back to a larger swath of their historical range.

In the thick, thorny brush of South Texas, a rare and elusive predator is making a quiet but remarkable comeback. For the first time in decades, researchers have confirmed a record number of ocelots roaming the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge—at least 22 individual cats. It's a hopeful milestone for one of North America's most endangered felines.

I’ve watched some mini documentaries about them. They’ve been tracking them down in both Mexico and the us. They’ve know there’s growing numbers but it’s hard with all The huge private ranches.. like Kings Ranch to get good numbers. Awesome animal

I wonder if Jaguars will ever start making a comeback in South Texas/Rio Grande Valley. There have only been random sightings. Vagabond cats.

I’ve heard rumors or tales of Jaguarundi spottings down toward Corpus as well.

My cousin’s uncle’s brother’s son, has had a black panther on camera in SW Mississippi going on 30 years. Gotta be at least 2 of them to show up that long!
For real though, that’s cool as hell about the ocelot. Between the Dire wolves, and the Mexicans, Arizona will be like Europeans never showed up!

Went camping as a kid near arroyo city and would occasionally see them in the brush. Always a cool sight.
