That’s a great analogy

The company I work for transports naturally occurring CO2 from Colorado and New Mexico via pipe over to the Permian Basin and flood old fields that the majors have moved on from.
We get about 50,000 BBLS/day from doing this…it’s called enhanced oil recovery.

Corporate America would build a solar powered CEO butt fricking machine if it meant getting to suck on that taxpayer titty for a few billion dollars

The idea that a respected company like Occidental (and Warren Buffett) would be involved is further proof that we are too far gone.
Buffet is making a financial play here, based on macro trends and who he sees in the white house for the next decade, nothing more. Incentives will continue and stocks will rise and he will rise with them.

Banks have been doing this tax based investing for a while now. Nothing really new here. Companies don’t like paying taxes so they find these avenues to convert a tax liability into investment. It’s pretty simple.

Friendly reminder that when the world shut down in 2020 because of Covid, 2 things happened.
1) The temperature in the atmosphere increased and
2) While carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions fell by 5.4% in 2020, the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere continued to grow at about the same rate as in preceding years.
Science Daily - COVID-19 lockdowns temporarily raised global temperatures, research shows
Sage Journals - Impacts on Global Temperature During the First Part of 2020 Due to the Reduction in Human Activities by COVID-19
NASA - Emissions Reduction Has Unexpected Affect

Point-source sequestration is on its way to Louisiana. Very curious to see if this air capture stuff can work efficiently and if projects like this will also find it way to Louisiana.
It can’t. It relies on enormous amounts of power, and there is no way to innovate out of that.
Air is where CO2 is rarest. We need to go to the sources of CO2 emission, where CO2 is the densest. There, we can capture it, scrub it, and sequester it.
The answers are:
1. Nuclear power
2. Replacing oil and gas with hydrogen and ammonia
3. Solar and wind - not as the mainstay, but for 15% to 30% that can be replaced by other sources when the wind and sun aren’t cooperating.
Natural gas is a great low CO2 source of energy as a bridge to these other technologies. Oil should be used until we eliminate coal.
And if ever we can come up with sustainable, low cost energy storage, we can ramp up solar and wind.

Bat. shite. Crazy times we live in. This carbon sequestration grift is quite frankly amazing to watch unfold. The rest of the world must marvel at Americas stupidity and societal degradation.

They already receive corporate welfare for climate change initiatives, at least this time those initiatives are going in the opposite direction.

Virtue signaling will continue to be expensive AF for oil companies in the future.

Even carbon capture isn’t good enough. It’s about control, not protecting the environment.
