Go to usps website, find one that does passport, make an appointment. Show up with old passport, new photos (some post offices will do these as well) and application filled out. You get old passport back.
Newer passports have a chip on front and id page is thick like a driver’s license

Clerk of Court in the old Woman’s Hospital

We went here, and it was a painless process. In and out in under 30 minutes. Easily done on your lunch break.

Get your passport photos done at Walgreens, CVS, etc., and bring the docs there. The instructions are online as to exactly what you need.

Only certain PO doke out the paperwork and take it to handle.

Other POs just take a photo for you.

Here in my county in Alabama.

What from what liberals tell me, you don’t need one. Just enter wherever you like and if they try to deny you, just call them racist.

I worked as a Passport Specialist for a year and a half. By all means don’t go to the post office to submit your application. There are legal requirements that the dude behind the counter either doesn’t know, or care about, that will severely delay processing.

There's expedited passport centers where you can walk in and out with a passport in a full workday.

There's one in New Orleans, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Hot Springs, and Charleston.

If you have AAA, they will take and give you your PP pics for free. We went to the one on Bluebonnet and I-10 in Baton Rouge.

I know I can go to the courthouse in Ascension Parish

The only thing they would do at the courthouse was take our pictures and gave us the website to go to and fill out the paperwork that had to be printed and mailed off, then went to the post office and mailed it certified mail. This was for a renewal that was not expired.

I had my appointment at USPS on Saturday June 14th and got my passport Wednesday July 8th. Birth certificate was returned a week after passport arrived.

I walked into my local USPS office, and had all my paperwork completed, along with copies of necessary documents. $257 and about 5 minutes later, I left.

Fairly simple process, and quite efficient too. And I'm not one who normally is impressed with our postal service.

Because if you need it quick then I suggest you find a passport office nearby that does expedited applications.

Friend got hers renewed in about two weeks -- non expedited -- this month. She was shocked.
