I wonder if Parish will have to resubmit every one of their beers based on hop locations.
I could see that getting bad.

Uh, not for the breweries who are trying to get their product in as many outlets as possible.
In no way imaginable is this a good thing for them.
I agree it's a terrible policy. It shouldn't be enacted.
But I am of the belief that people will go where they can find good food and drink. Most big chains don't have very local beers anyway. I just think that if the big chains don't serve the local craft beers they want they will go where they are served- local non chains. There's been a bigger movement toward that anyway. Chain restaurants aren't nearly as popular as they once were.

. If it is just a matter of labeling the beer with more information than in the past, I don't see how this is a big deal.
like I said, its just more meaningless legislation
its the principle behind it all that I have a problem with
I don't really care about the actual cost

From your link.

Also a calorie range, such as 95-150 calories, may be used if the menu uses generic terms like “beer,” “light beer,” “red wine,” or “white wine” and there are three or more items available within a category. However, if beers are listed by brand name, style, or category a caloric value must be provided next to each beer offered that corresponds with the serving size being provided to the consumer. Additional nutrition information must be available upon request from the consumer including calories, calories from fat, total fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, sodium, total carbohydrates, dietary fiber, sugars and protein.

Many food establishments are already taking steps to prepare for the regulations by analyzing or verifying nutrition information for their various offerings. Thus these establishments will be looking to the beer industry to provide the full nutrition profile of their products.

never said beer should be an exception
I don't think food should be required to label either

Places like Whole Foods and Rouses (which is local itself) carry local products and try to support the community. It's not just restaurants.

That $77,000 estimate is for restaurants, which is who this regulation applies to. Has nothing to do with craft brewers. That part is just made up BS.
And it only applies to restaurants with at least 20 locations.
Those restaurants will ask brewers for their calorie contents, which will cost them a couple hundred bucks to figure out.

horseshite. Hooters, for one, sells the local craft brew here in Florida.
They carry it here in Louisiana as well, but I agree with the original poster, if hooters doesn't carry parish, it isn't going to hurt them, chimes or any other local bar would love another keg of it.

It's not that hard to add a tiny detail to your label. They already brag about IBUs and ABV on most craft labels. The real problem is when people start to realize how many calories that DIPA has, making Ultra appear almost palatable. I still can't figure out why this gut won't go away!

I think all of then should be voluntary. Customer demand will keep many products labeled.

It's pretty well documented that nutrition labels on food products hasn't done anything to curb obesity in America.

A local grocery chain close to my house has a growler fill station that rotates 10 taps pretty frequently.
They have the beer information written on a chalkboard. I'm wondering if simply riding the caloric information on the board will fulfill this stupid arse requirement.

So you don't drink other beer? I assume you are located in New York, where you have teh benefit of having local "neighborhood" breweries. In most of the country and it's not like that. I would hope you would care to some amount, because this will hurt many small breweries that make fantastic beer.
You're correct mostly. Though I can't tell you the last time bought or drank a big 3 beer. My big problem with the big 3 has more to do with them buying out their competitors whenever they get too big and laying off the entire staff (see Rolling Rock). But even with that they have been losing market share to craft breweries across the nation. People want craft beer, wherever it is. That's why I don't think this will affect them very much.

they should require directions on which end to open the bottle if we are trying to protect that level of idiot.
