Planning a trip in Aug/Sep and we wanna stay in Timed Square. What's the best route as far as flight/hotel combo... Would like to be as economical as possible. Also, what are the must do's and best way to enjoy this trip. Where to fly into? Where to stay? Etc. I appreciate any tips

Wa t to be economical but staying in Times Square huh? Where to fly in will likely be JFK I guess. Just dont fly in to Newark. Jet Blue to Westchester isn't a bad idea. Then you can train in to Grand Central.

You can fly into any of the 3...go whatevers cheaper.

No idea what to tell you hotels, but Times Square won't be the cheapest.

There's literally everything to do here so you need to be more specific.

Marriott Marquis on Broadway

Got a great deal as a govt. employee two summers ago. Right in the middle of Times Square.

Call Jerry Michaels 225-322-2122 he will fly you in his twin engine Cessna. Approach to La Guardia is a little bumpy but he's only missed the runway once.

Look up Bart in the Men's section at Macy's when you're there. He's got a cot in his living room/kitchen and he'll let you stay on the "economical". Its not exactly "Timed Square" but you can get there.

Dress in black/dark clothing at all times (no, I am not kidding). You will blend in well.

Ride the subways (serious - it is fun).

Do not look up at the buildings. Dead give away for tourists.

Blow through all crosswalks (watch out for taxis turning right).

Top of the Rock. Central Park. Museums.

Try tripadvisor. They probably already have two dozen threads with the exact same question.

I've stayed in times squares and not in times square before.

I liked staying around 30th street better. It's a little less of a freak show and you can always walk to times square.

Why are you staying in Times Square?

Fly into question depends on where you are flying from.

Must see 9/11 Memorial, the Statue of Liberty, Flatiron building. If you are a sports fan go to Yankee Stadium.

The Affinia is a few blocks down from Times square across from MSG. Close to Penn Station. I fly Jet Blue to NY. There is so much to do you can't even imagine.

Don't stay in Times Square. Mid city sucks.

Hotwire and priceline are good for hotels if you're feeling a little bold on not knowing exactly where you are choosing when you book.

If you mean midtown, no. Times Square is too expensive though when you can stay a dozen blocks away for 50% less.

Not to mention, staying right there gets annoying dealing with foot traffic every time you come/go from your hotel. You'll want to see Times Square once and thats about it.
