re: NY Times: It’s Time for America to Admit That It Has a Marijuana Problem

However, it’s still a problem. And it may be more of a problem for some people than others. Just like any other drug. But I do find marijuana more prevalent nowadays than it used to be. But you can’t go anywhere in Baton Rouge or New Orleans without smelling it - and that wasn’t the case 20 years ago.
The issue is, the moment someone is ticketed for smoking in public, driving while high, etc., all the people in this thread stating that there are already laws against it would be on here and out in public screeching like Karens about how dare they give tickets for smoking a plant.
Enforce the laws and I won’t care.
Pot smells terrible. Parents show up to the ER smelling like pot all the time.

So what changed?

Of course!

I credit marijuana use for doing quite a bit of good for me in the last 3 years(didn’t smoke before that.)

It does smell horrible though

This is usually the precursor to an incredibly stupid hypothetical. And after reading what you wrote…checks out.

huge black market for cigarettes to avoid taxes
What is the ratio comparison of taxed cigarettes to bootleg cigarettes? 100K to 1? IMO, they should tax the shite out of it to pay for our shitty infrastructure, especially in Louisiana.
Want to “criminalize” public consumption? $500 fine for 1st offense, $1000 for every repeat with a $1000 escalator after.
And before the libertarians come out to play, I don’t care what you do in your home or designated smoking location.

quote:I’m not going to argue that half the country having legal rec weed, and most of the rest allowing medical, hasn’t created a more permissive culture overall. Even states without legal rec feel that cultural shift, so I’ll skip the bullshite “but Louisiana isn’t legal” angle. Cultural spillover is real, and in your situation I get why some of the behavior would be frustrating.
I do not disagree with you
Legalizing weed in Louisiana would not matter at all.
I’ll just point out that a huge portion of the country doesn’t live in environments like Baton Rouge or New Orleans, and experiences vary a lot depending on where you are. To draw a parallel, Popeye’s is actually a pretty pleasant experience where I live too, and nobody’s telling you to “pull forward for the spicy.”

quote:my problem is that it’s being thrust upon me, all this cultural shite is - like I said in an earlier post - I don’t care what you do in your home but why do my potatoes from Rouses smell like marijuana? You like it - that’s great - but I don’t want it.
hasn’t created a more permissive culture overall.
quote:don’t blame you because the legality of weed is irrelevant in predominantly black cities
“but Louisiana isn’t legal” angle.
Which I know is not where most people live - but the drug culture and black culture go hand in hand in many areas. Same thing with Hispanics, and a lot of white trash too.

The smell of weed permeating the reception area of my office at 9AM somedays is nauseating.
9AM - you smell like weed and you’re looking for a hand out. Wow.

It sounds like the staffing agency I managed. 9am looking for a job and smelling up the WHOLE office. No we are not sending you on a job

This is a bull shite, made up diagnosis when weed smokers have nausea and vomiting. I was told I had CHS because I admitted to smoking at a concert a month before.
No more tests, told me to stop smoking weed and I would get better. After 2 years of getting worse, I eventually had a genetic test and i have AIP not CHS.
CHS is a lazy diagnosis given by retarded doctors that don't want to actually do their job.

Yulp- alcohol use is at about a 90 year low

More Americans now use marijuana daily than alcohol.
That’s pretty cool. I certainly don’t advocate for someone who’d never been a daily drinker or smoker to just take weed up daily.
But if smoking (or especially eating) a little weed daily is supplanting alcohol to a significant degree (you can’t derive that conclusion from that one data point, but I assume that’s true), then that’s a net positive.

Could be worse. Tons of regular day folk jobs, particularly in the trades will toke up before a day.
Not everyone who smokes has the intention of being blitzed out of their mind. For some people its a cheaper (sone would argue safer) alternative to anti-anxiety or anti-depression medication (ssris). In small doses its highly effective once you find the right strain.
