"I'm giving you a watch, but next time I'll be sure to give you a warning."

And probably deserve to die in a tornado.

So you just want them to change the Tornado designations but not flood, hurricane, & tropical storm, now that would be confusing.

Yep. Watch means you can go outside and watch the tornado.

Warning means there's could be a tornado in your area.

You got it backwards, proving the OP’s point.

I 100% agree. I know what they mean, but I still find the terminology horrible.

If you were standing in the middle of the road with a car coming directly at you would somebody shout “WARNING!!! Car coming!” Or “WATCH OUT FOR THAT CAR YOU IDIOT”

With that analogy, it's more....you know you're on a road, so you have to watch for a car that could be coming.

I just ignore both of them. The odds of getting hit are very low and if you do it was your time to go.
I’ve read far too many dumb things on this board, and this is pretty high on that ignominious list.

Either way I’m getting in the car and driving erratically.

You're out of luck until someone comes up with idiot-proof terminology.

It's two words. One means one thing, one means the other. Only the stupid can get a 50/50 thing confused.

The good news is that any confusion just eliminates the stupid people.

Watch implies the tornado is out there to be seen IMO. Which apparently is not what they mean.

Tornado Watch means that conditions are favorable for the development of storms that could produce tornadoes.

Tornado Warning means that there is an active storm in the warning area that is producing a tornado or is rotating to the point that is capable of producing a tornado shortly.

(The NWS will also occasionally use the term “Tornado Emergency” in the text of the tornado warning when there is a tornado confirmed on the ground and likely doing damage)

That’s not a difficult distinction if people will just use their head and take the time to read what I just wrote.

Used to a warning meant a tornado had been sighted. If you were in the path of one shite was about to get real. Now they're radar indicated and may or may not materialize

It’s hard to spot tornados in an area with a dense tree canopy like Louisiana - even more so at night.

Baton Rouge only sees accurate low level Doppler radar coverage east of the city. There is a blind spot in central southern Louisiana, so they get a lot of false alarms.

No that's like crossing a street without looking first. If your dumb decision gets you run over by a car, it wasn't your time to go...you as a free moral agent chose to be stupid and hastened your demise.

Again, God generally gives one sense enough to not do ignorant and mindless things which can take you out from under his protection. As we have free will, we can choose poorly and bind God from preventing the consequences of the poor decisions as well.

Or, the NWS could use different, intuitive language so that people don’t have to read an explanation to understand what is going on
