But it truly was an “at least she isn’t suffering and miserable anymore” type of situation. So I was at peace with it.

I don't understand why we let people live once they reach a certain stage in life.. Whether they are 30 or 130... If whatever they have isn't curable and they have reached a certain point that will only get worse. Do something to help them move on.. Die with some dignity.

Agree. My FIL is in a very nice nursing home at Berry College in Rome, GA. However; it is as you say; very depressing to me. He is 99 and his mind is still extremely sharp for a 99 year old. But his body is breaking down more every day. He feels awful physically and says so. He is very religious so he has come to terms with dying.

I have already told my wife that I am not going to a nursing home. I have enough pain medication and muscle relaxers to kill a herd of horses so I am going out that way before I can get too far gone.

Looks can be deceiving.

Had a relative that started out in basically a brand new assisted living. Facilities were top notch but a lot of the staff was just not worth a flip.

After another move they ended up in a much older nursing home, but the staff was 100% better than at the new facility.

His nursing home does have a great staff and he is treated like a celebrity since he’s the oldest one there. So at least that is not an issue.
