test optional brings in the kids with limited financial resources from small towns and shitty schools that need student housing and meal plans and fund everything through grants and loans
they need to fill those dorms and university owned apartments
the more grant money underpriviledged LSU students get, the better it looks for access to Federal Programs that benefit LSU

Both myself and my wife graduated from LSU. I didn't need anymore reasons to tell my kids they aren't allowed to go to school in-state, but I appreciate the OP for continuing to help fortify that decision.
