Why do buildings collapse all the time in NYC? Serious question? Is it poor construction? Doesn’t seem like they would have subterranean termites like down here.

This was a gym. It is mostly machines with some free weights. I wonder if shock waves over the years are responsible.

Or since it is a gym and has been closed, was it a planned accident?

No. There's a wide gulf between what happens in NYC/NY and NOLA/LA.

In one city they clear people out the buildings, dead or alive, at all costs. In the other they just let people dangle there for months.

Those 100+ year old all brick buildings are going to start tumbling all over the place due to lack of maintenance.

Several in Birmingham had the entire backs of them start falling off several years ago.
