Wife’s extended family started rolling in today. A few are staying with us but won’t get here until tomorrow. Not gonna lie — I’m not exactly looking forward to this. Haven’t seen most of them in years. At least the weather’s supposed to be nice, so I can get a little buzzed in the backyard if things get weird. Hoping the week stays smooth.

No. I don't have the gravitas or authority to start it. I defer to my OT betters.

You've already got a few proper Thanksgiving drama responses. And pioneer might be dead. It's yours now. Change the thread title so that people can find the best thread of the year.

2024 link, OP has links to the older ones. If I didn't actually have shite to do tomorrow at work, I'd just "binge" all of them: LINK

Nothing substantial really happens to us. We spent many Thanksgivings alone in Boise, which was very nice.

We are going to a small family gathering this year, about 10 people total. It's a situation where the people cooking the meal are wound tight and always "task" people with helping out and then get passive when you don't do it exactly how they want it done. I am someone who doesn't like to be tasked during Thanksgiving. If I wanted a job on a holiday I'd stay home and cook for myself and my wife.

We are curious as to how it's going to go. We are bringing deviled eggs. I'm going to offer to help when I get there. I don't mind helping out with a few small things, but if it turns into us being kitchen help all day, or wrangling dogs/kids, we will stay home next year.

Once you stay home for holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, you realize how nice it is and wonder why so many people subject themselves to environments that are stressful on a holiday.

did you know that video games now use speech recognition to auto ban people for being rude? How soft is that?
If this is true, I’m alright with this.

My brother in law is flying in tonight.
He is 51 and parties like a drunken frat boy on LSD.
I told him I would go out and bar hop with him tonight.
Thanksgiving is at my house tomorrow.
Should be interesting.

Sounds like an episode in "The Bear".

About to get ugly here later, wife (no pics) wants to make pecan pie using Karo syrup. I insist on using Steens syrup instead. So I’m making the pie while she’s at work today.
That’s all I got.

That episode is nuts and this will be NOTHING like that. There's just a little rigidity and unspoken judgement.

This is the way.

Link all of the old ones in the OP.

May at least 5 members of the OT have a drama filled shite show of a Thanksgiving, let us all celebrate their folly.

Freak yes! I've been looking for this thread. It's not Thanksgiving without it.

I'm doing a low key Thanksgiving this year. One son is in Colorado probably hiking a mountain. My other son is chilling upstairs. My parents are long gone and my in-laws are too old to make the drive from NOLA. My siblings are spread out along the southern coast. Thanksgiving dinner might be a turkey sandwich.

Wife’s doing the grocery store circuit this morning. So far, no drama. I’m enjoying the peace while it lasts.
