Notary at bank in NOLA?

Selling a house and need to give power of attorney to our agent to sign for us. The title company is requiring us to get the power of attorney notarized by a notary at a bank. Must be employed at the bank not a notary that comes to the bank.
I’ve visited and/or called a half a dozen banks and all have said either they don’t have a notary or no banks in Louisiana have notaries. Is this title company full of shite?

Most banks I've been in have a notary. It shouldn't matter where the notary is employed, that seems weird

Sounds like an odd requirement but they are insuring the title so they can ask what they want.
You may also want to check with your lender and make sure they are ok with you real estate agent signing on your behalf...some may not like a party to the transaction signing for you.
** I am NOT an attorney...not even an OT attorney
ETA: Oops, I see you are selling not buying...forget what I said about the lender.

They're are most likely looking to hang liability on a bank if something went wrong. Its a BS request. Find another Title company.

My local bank has a notary that's free if you have membership.
Only place I go.

This is not true.

why do they care where the notary works? I've never heard of anything like this. Only time I've ever had to deal with anything close to this is a Medallion Signature Guarantee from a bank.

Good luck. I worked in banking for years, and we never had a bank employee as a notary. Banks don't want to have to worry about the expense and continuing education since becoming a notary in Louisiana is such a pain in the arse. I'm assuming the title company is an out of town company, or else they probably wouldn't be asking for this.

Right, which is a wholly different stamp. Signature Guarantees have to do with financial transaction, mostly stocks, and do not necessarily confirm the identification of the signer.

Title companies and their nonsensical rules and requirements are in general a pain in the arse to work with. Avoid them when possible.

Banks also have this "super notary" (I forget exactly what it's called). Some banks won't give the public access to them. When I was executing my father's will I had to get some stuff "super notarized" and had a time finding a bank that would do it.

Tell them no. Trust me, the buyer will then sit on them to come up with a solution.

My bank forbids it. I just completed annual compliance training and that was one of the questions. Not sure what bank in La offers notary services these days? I'd like to know.

We offer Medallion Stamp for securities transfers. Maybe that's what you are referring to? Never heard of "super notary"

I saw someone earlier posting that there is continuing education required to be a notary in Louisiana, is that why your bank forbids it?

A community bank in my hometown does it. I know this because documents come through our office all the time notarized by their employees.

I'm thinking it's a risk or conflict of interest issue. I never truly asked, but our compliance survey specifically asked if I'm a notary and if so, it must be disclosed; and can't accept payment for notary services inside the bank.

I think the bank I'm talking about only does it for customers and doesn't charge them for it.

This is very odd. A notary regardless at a bank or title co can handle this. What makes it more strange is that title co usually have a notary in house.
I think the title co is full of shite or too cheap to have one inhouse.
