Idiots with guns

I have plenty of guns and was taught how to handle and respect them from the first time I ever shot as a young child. I have plenty of people that over the years I've learned I don't want to be around when they have weapons. I also have many people I will be around because they are safe and responsible.

Having said that there are many people in this world that should not be allowed to have a weapon. And why in the link do everyone of them think it's funny to almost kill yourself or someone else?

These are the discussions we should be having regarding weapons as well as mental health.

Idiots with drivers licenses are a bigger problem

So we should ignore idiots with guns because there are idiots with cars? Makes sense.

So who and how would you ban them from it without banning others?

Nowhere did he suggest, imply or say any of the shite you said. Mentioning idiots with a driver's license doesn't negate every other idiot on the planet.

focusing on about .5% of accidental deaths vs around 20% seems somewhat misguided.

Okay, so how do you propose we decide who should and shouldn’t own guns?

Well if you watch just that one 6 minute video (and of course there are a hundred more) I'd say everyone on it with a gun in their hand is retarded and the ones laughing one would suspect, are at the least one small bus ride away from the same diagnosis.

So we could start by saying no retarded person should own a gun.

Assuming "we" can only deal with one at a time is equally misguided.

Not suggesting any form of restrictions just pointing out the flaw in the logic.

Okay. Let's say we ban mentally ill from owning firearms (sounds great right?) What happens then?

1) people whom own guns will simply lie to whatever psychologist test them.
2) some psychologist will be anti-gun and will say anyone they see is unfit for owning a firearm. Some psychologist will be pro gun and let those with issues slip.
3) you have to go by referrals, in which case certain people will target gun owners for anything and everything to try to get them marked as mentally ill.

Now, after all that, little depressed Timmy can't own his gun. But for how long? We all know everyone goes through depression. We also know that how long it lasts varys by person to person.

So, how long will depressed Timmy be unable to have firearms?

A year? 2? 5? 10? Forever?

You see, you won't have people with mental problems come forward looking for help if you tie in a punishment for seeking that help.

So what now, hot shot?

Not only that but Timmy can always buy a gun illegally. That's the biggest problem. The cat is out of the bag. Anyone can get hold of a gun if they want to, legally or not.

If we judged every right/privelage by the lowest common denominator no one would get to have anything.

- No personal vehicles to get to and from as you desire because that one guy can't convince himself not to get behind the wheel hammered.
- No alcohol for people to enjoy on occasion because that one guy can't control himself and is in an abusive relationship
- No guns for sane citizens to defend their person/property because that one guy was crazy/evil.
- No soda, or excess toppings on your pizza because that one guy can't eat in moderation and is a burden on healthcare system.
- No anonymous Internet forums to gather knowledge and share opinions because that one guy is a troll and offends others.
- No social media for the population to share their lives among friends because that one girl is a bully and makes a classmate depressed/suicidal.
- No casinos for the casual gambler because that one family was torn apart by addictive gambling debt.

Yes some things can be more dangerous to others not involved, and I'm not against measures to minimize certain threats. But you can't just cater to the people who cant control themselves by robbing the vast majority of the simple pleasures in life. Their destructive personalities will manifest in some way regardless.
If ole boy in Vegas couldn't have purchased firearms he could have just as easily killed more people using that ammonium nitrate on the crowd. Or any other explosive substance. His issue was the desire to commit mass murder, not that guns are legal in the US. He would have found a way regardless

IMO

Or we just ingnore both and not do anything but accept that living in a free society has inherent risks. I'd rather see ten school shootings and 1000 fatal car accidents a day than give up my cars and guns.

the fact that he posted it in a thread about guns suggests and implies that's exactly what he meant. however, i did refer back to him for confirmation in the form of an interrogative clause. Do you know what that means? hint: it ends in ?
