How is it reasonable to tax citizenry to provide services such as roads, then hand off construction and management of one of the most important roads in Dallas/Plano/Frisco to a private entity that pretends it's the government and say "well hey it's not us, you have to pay those guys", and then that private entity gets the Texas DMV to be their enforcement arm, which can't possibly hold up under real court scrutiny.

I have no problem with localities adding HOV lanes to an already existing highway for a cost. The Dallas North Tollway is the only real way to get around North Dallas. It was only supposed to be a paid road until the original bonds were paid off, around 2005, but they realized it was a cash cow and decided to keep it going and keep expanding.

There's some shady shite afoot and I'll have no part of it.

You didn't live in Dallas before no HOVs, George Bush, the DNT ending before Legacy or 121 being 4 lane I take it. Paying was a blessing to drive afterwards

If they made tolls as option add-ons to existing roads, sure. But they've made some of the most necessary roads in Dallas toll only. One of the government's fundamental responsibilities is providing citizens roads, and they just say nah we'll skip that part but keep their money and let a private company build them and charge for it.

I didn't, but the reason we pay taxes to the worthless government is to build this shite, not for them to take our tax money and let a private company build the roads and charge for them in perpetuity.

Dallas Parkway was original I think, and that still exists on either side of Dallas Tollway.

I pay taxes. The taxes are to build the roads. The government takes the taxes and doesn't build the roads.

I lived in Dallas for 15 years, then moved back to BR (a decision I’ve regretted since). I’ll take tollways all day long over the joke of a highway system we have here.

Nola did the same thing with tolls on the crescent city connection bridge and kept them on once the new bridge was paid off b/c the greasy politicians liked the income. But WE the people had enough and voted it off. Government cheated and rigged the election (sound familiar?) but a judge reversed it and tolls came off.

Back in the day, when I live there, only one toll road existed.

Being a broke student, I never went on the North Central Expressway. Not sure if it is still a toll now or not.

I was in Austin back in June. I went through three toll gates, where they bill you later (no toll booth at all).
A couple weeks ago, I get a bill in the mail for $85.
This was my first bill. It said it was delinquent, and had $75 late fee on it.
I call them, and they even admit they are behind on notices, so I just paid the $9 toll. Some people would have just paid the $85, thinking they missed the three previous notices.

Californians are ruining Texas with their politics.

Cajuns obviously want to ruin Texas with their road designs.

People from California need to leave their shitty politics behind when they leave that state. Louisiana residents need to leave their shitty infrastructure behind when fleeing.

Hahahahaha!!!!!

You are so 1983.

Everybody knows the government’s main responsibility is social justice and grooming kids.
Get outta here with your safe cities, secure borders, good roads, strong defense and infrastructure nonsense- you NAZI!

Tollways brought them further out quicker than govt usually adjusts to population growth. State and some state funding put an end to new ones for now. From what I remember I think they also improved the existing road with more turn lanes, uturn lanes at intersections, and more thru lanes outside of maybe the parkway south of 635 which couldn’t have had much room to expand in width like further north.

Also, with a lot of major projects the govt entity sold bonds to fund a large part of construction if not most, so tax money can be taken after construction begins.

Never been a toll road. Merely a permanent parking lot which forces people to use the North Dallas Tollway.
