Are you saying the waves and dancing platform shown in the video are just a figment of our imaginations?

There is another video of a calmer time there. That does not mean this part did not exist.

That video in OP had the dimensions changed on it to make it appear taller and the waves bigger. The first response to the tweet explains all of that. Not to say the waves are small but they aren't that big

The regular HD version seems just as scary to me. I assume everyone was just in their quarters during something like this but I wouldn't know.

That's gonna be a no from me dog. I can't fathom working on something like this:

Whole lot of Nope for me!

From what vantage point is this being filmed?

It seems like the videographer is standing on a structure that is not affected by the waves.

Troll A is not a floating platform. It has a huge concrete structure that sits on the bottom. My guess is that this video is of a floating service rig taken from the stationary Troll platform. Whatever the floating platform is it wasn't anchored and likely on a move or DPS. Offshore rigs are the most vulnerable while under tow/move. I was on a jack-up rig once that got caught in a really bad storm while under tow. We had 30 foot waves breaking over the top of the rig and the decks were swamped with 3-4 feet of water. A handful of us were allowed outside to check on the rig and keep the generators running. The rest of the crew were locked arm in arm in the living quarters with life jackets on. Those poor guys were getting slammed across the living quarters from one side to the other from the wave action. It was fricking terrifying.

First thing I thought of. Ole baws loaded up the mead and rolled out in those waves.

I remember a large jack-up that was lost in the North Atlantic while under tow. Back in the late 80's? I don't think anyone went down with it, but it had to be a bad time for those aboard.

Not sure about a jack-up but the best known sinking in the Atlantic was the Ocean Ranger. Semi-sub that lost ballast control during a bad storm. Everyone on board was lost.

I do remember that one too. That was horrible.
On land and sea, Mother Nature can lure you into a false sense of calm only to strike you with her full fury in a matter of hours.

Gorilla I was the one I was thinking of.

I mean you have to have a safety line walking around that thing at all times when its like that, right? No way I'm getting on that thing.

I have an uncle who survived a rig sinking in the GOM. This happened before I started working in the offshore oil industry but the rig he was on was a sister rig to the one I was on that nearly sunk and in almost identical circumstances. Once you put those offshore rigs in tow you are completely at the mercy of mother nature and she can turn nasty on you in no time.
