It was all over the news this morning here in Japan. Mobile anti-missle sites have been popping up and I've noticed a lot more military activity around once of the bases here where I sometimes work.

When dealing with nuclear weapons around large population centers, by the time you hear the " Boom!" You are well and truly screwed dude.
We do know for a certainty that NorKo can detonate nuclear explosions as demonstrated by their successful recent underground test blast.

I was wondering this myself.
After all, they can be lulling a sense of security with an overshot. Theoretically they can fake out and do a second burn to turn the overshot to a direct hit with bare minutes of warning.
Best answer I have is a two parter:
Strategically speaking they are uncomfortable utilizing missile defenses in regularity just to slap down NK and show them who is the big man on campus. Every time you fire them in range of another country's observers/radar, you are building a profile of your defense capabilities. You are telling their weapons development teams the exact parameters they need to withstand to beat the system.
I don't want China to know that, and I doubt the Joint Chiefs do either.
The second is physiological. We can't ever have a failed attack at any level of the system ever. This opens up a feeling of hope that "Maybe it'll go through." Even if it is 99% confidence, it'll be pretty shitty to lose that assurance for a test launch. So save the "for reals" usage for a "for reals" attack, and not just slapping our dick on the table. You want the adversary to truly believe it is pointless to even try launching nukes.
Secondary I those, you probably have geopolitical concerns with escalation.
You can be sure however that we have multiple assets in place ready to go live at a seconds notice.

Which all this phuckery confuses me about how the powers that be govern. THE time they let a live one go, won't that be too late and millions dead? Unless they have a spy at the controls of the actual NK launch site.
