Is New Orleans truly as horrific and violent as these threads seem to suggest? Is it actually that much more violent than other cities of the same size?

What's made it so bad lately? We've known the city has had a crime problem for decades now, but it seems to be exponentially worse the past 2-3 years.
A lot of it is due to exposure on social media. Crime is actually down in the city from year past, like many said look at the stats from the 90's.

NOLA has problems no doubt. 9 million or so people with half a brain felt safe enough to visit the city last years.
It is what it is. Bubba that comes down to eat a lucky dog and drink a hand grenade is the one who seems to bitch and moan the most in these threads.

New Orleans is a cesspool. Baton Rouge is turning into a cesspool. It's a cultural thing I think.

I don't know if anything different is driving it on the thug side; more of them, more out of work, more finding it fashionable.
But it seems the NOPD and Sheriffs' Department are in a tailspin. Why anyone would want to be a cop in New Orleans is beyond me, so while some academy classes have graduated the brain drain is real. Serpas was bad but Harrison is a moron. The federal consent decrees handcuffs the locals. The State Troopers appear to be back to being traffic cops.
I also think more gentrification is erasing some natural boundaries.

Crime Trend Continues the Next Day in New Orleans

a 47-year-old man was cutting grass at home in the 7900 block of Bass Street in the Little Woods section of eastern New Orleans, when two men came up to him and demanded his keys and wallet. When the victim said he didn't have them on him, one man punched him and the face, before fleeing.
Geeze you can't even cut your grass in New Orleans. Lol

Pathetic. The summer is off to an ominous start. It'll be reminiscent of the "90's".

It's pathetic but that's one of the worst parts of New Orleans East. It seems most of these robberies are happening in the East, Marigny, Bywater, and St. Roch.

Most, but Uptown and Lakeview are starting to feel it as well.

No longer that safe of an area. Sad, but true.
