Put more windmills and solar panels and you should see a significant drop in burglaries, robberies, rape, assault, murder.

The blacks killed and buried Detroit. Detroit was on life support after the automobile collapse. However, the city wasn't dead....yet.
Once the violent crime, arsonists, street gangs, heroine and crack epidemic in the 70's and 80's hit full force, the hard-working (whites and blacks) moved away or to the suburbs. The lawless and trash stayed and became in charge. They ran that once proud city into the ground. They defiled and degraded it. fricking savages. I hope they rot in the stew of shite and filth they created.
I'm now noticing similar trends in major portions of Chicago.

The forty years that New Orleans has been a majority black city have seen the decline in the city's status from a national economic powerhouse in the 60s-70s to a regional tourist destination. Plent of functional people are up at 6am getting coffee, walking dogs, jogging, heading to work, etc. Things foreign to a large percentage of the NOLA population.

The problem with gentrification of the city is
1. Out pricing the locals
2. New Orleans will become a Disney world version of what it once was
3. There is a job economy to support the pricing of homes economy so it's basically out of towners but up property and turning this city in to a vacation home destination.
4. When has this town ever thrived in an industry that wasn't from trade, transport, or physical labor.

Hundreds of murders per year, sky high crime rates, corruption, poverty, broken schools?
It wasn't until the late 1970s that New Orleans became a "black city". By no objective measure is New Orleans an economically stronger, safer, or better place to raise a family than it was before those times.

NO, it won't. There's a ceiling on how much you can get people to pay to move there for the French Quarter and "food scene." Without the grit and rawness it will lose appeal. They'll still be behind levees, they'll still be subject to ridiculous summer mugginess.
The rest of the nation has been subsidizing New Orleans in a big way. Once all the Katrina, Gustav, CDBG, Citizens Insurance, and BP money runs out they'll be back where they were 15 years ago in no time. The state is also running out of money and can't keep subsidizing the movie industry and perhaps even the Saints, either.
