When the SWB top spot was down to a local, politically connected attorney with no utility experience vs a outsider with nearly 30 years of municipal water experience, I thought the worst was yet to come. Shockingly, the seemingly qualified outsider got the job.

Does it bother you that only public opinion kept the other lawyer from being hired?

Ask yourself, how is it possible that they were the second most qualified person...

For New Orleans, it's a huge step forward. It would be the same for Jefferson Parish. If they were SERIOUS, they'd amend the job requirements to ensure that ONLY the crony got it.

LINK

These are her accomplishments that she's touting herself....

Hiring of a new Sewerage & Water Board executive director

Accelerated spending on repairs to streets and underground pipes, and smaller, behind-the-scenes changes, such as departmental reorganizations

The establishment of an LGBTQ+ Task Force

New purchasing and property tax software

She hired an outsider for one of the most corrupt and deficient agencies in the city. What's the problem?

She hired someone from Milwaukee to head the SWB. How exactly is someone from Milkwaukee a local crony? It's certainly a big step up from whatever local hyphenated name would have been a shoe in for this gig in the past.

In the last Cantrell-related thread, there seemed to be a growing contingent of supporters on this board.

I didn’t vote for her this time but she seems to be doing a few good things in her first few months. Keep it up and she’ll get my vote next time.

No, it's better.

It may not be good (remains to be seen) but it will be better than what we have currently.

Time will tell on Khorban, but her interim choice certainly sucked.

Khorban appears to be a better choice than the other finalist Russell, since he at least has experience in Public Works.

I would tend to agree with that. I just question why the other guy was even in the position to be a finalist. Unless it was attempt to secure him a job until the public caught on.

Not the first time Cantrell could be accused of that since winning the office.

Wouldn't surprise me, but let's be honest here; her backing down on a crony hire after public backlash is 10x better than the Louisiana political norm. Usually the crony gets hired and the politicians dgaf about whatever flack they get.

Cantrell ain't perfect by a long stretch, but I applaud the fact that she listened to the public and made the correct* choice.

That Warren Riley thing was horrible. But I think that smacked of her being tone-deaf, more than anything else.

Riley might be a great Homeland Security director... in Iowa. His name is just too muddied to work here.

Very true. No matter what happens, I'm glad she fired those turds that the liar Grant hired (who was hired by Bitch Landrieu despite the ethics board being against the move to hire Grant).

Fun Fact re: S&WBNO:

During Harvey, the LANG was tasked with monitoring the operation of the NOLA pumps S&WBNO themselves are tasked with manning, operating and providing updates for.

Think about it: FedGov has spent-literally-BILLIONS on the NOLA pumping systems in the past dozen years since Katrina. Yet we cannot trust this system to be either run or accurately reporting it’s own capacity and function during a disaster by the municipal entity who sole role is to do so during a disaster.

Think about that. The macro-level understanding of that level of distrust for such a critical piece of the city’s infrastructure. Seriously...you can’t trust the public agency that runs the pumps to actually run, maintain or inform the public and public safety leaders about their capability or function.

Really stop and think about that. Unsettling is a wholly inadequate descriptor for how anyone should feel about S&WBNO.
