Last week the interim exec director approved retroactive pay raises for these three. All were tossed out this morning, and the interim exec director has been replaced, two weeks before the new director is set to arrive.

Also... for the Half-Moon Haters out there... here is a gem:

quote:

"This Sewerage and Water Board will not be beholden to the previous administration," Cantrell said. "We have no room for distractions, we have only room for progress."

I think Cantrell is realizing what Half Moon did not: People are going to hold the mayor responsible for the crap at the S&WB because the mayor is the president of the board. Maybe we will see real change, maybe we will only see lip service, but at least she's more in tuned than Half Moon ever was.

So people that deserved a brass knuckle beatdown more than a raise are no longer getting that raise?

I can dig it.

Uh........NO!

She'll be re-elected in 4 years unless she's in prison.

NOLA will NOLA!

In the last Cantrell-related thread, there seemed to be a growing contingent of supporters on this board.

I had my doubts about her from the get go, but I can't complain so far...

Still wouldn't live in Orleans Parish...

Has she done anything yet?

Besides go back on her traffic camera campaign promise.

When the SWB top spot was down to a local, politically connected attorney with no utility experience vs a outsider with nearly 30 years of municipal water experience, I thought the worst was yet to come. Shockingly, the seemingly qualified outsider got the job. Then the retroactive pay fiasco last week I thought we were back to business as usual in NO. Now less than a week later those people were fired and replaced with a military officer.

The city has many issues to tackle. A major one is reducing self-inflicted wounds.

While I applaud this move, it's only with a polite golf clap until I see who the new faces are and what they do (or do not do).

The politically connected tyro WILL receive something under the table in all likelihood. The eminently qualified outsider they hired will be hamstrung by employees for years, until he quits in frustration. Long-time SWB workers will basically do nothing for him, will delay and obfuscate on any ideas, proposals, jobs, and work orders to ensure he leaves at his earliest convenience.

As for Mayor Cantrell, she will, as in this case, make the right hire, allow these people to not receive pay raises or whatever, but ONLY until 2021. Once she's re-elected in 2021, all "progress" will cease, and we will once again, be back to business as usual. She has to put on a good show for four years, much to her chagrin, most likely, then once the election happens, the next morning IT'S ON.

Well she did this, so...

Yeah, that was pretty bad, no doubt.

To me, it was kinda like how Obama campaigned on closing Gitmo. It's easy to say crap when you are the outsider. When you actually get into office and can see clearly how things will be impacted by your decisions, your mind often changes.

Camera revenue brings in a stupid amount of money. Cantrell isn't going to cut government, and can't figure out a way to replace that money, so the cameras stay.

I didn’t vote for her this time but she seems to be doing a few good things in her first few months. Keep it up and she’ll get my vote next time.

How hard is that decision? Fire Landrieu leftovers and replace them with your own cronies, not exactly profiles in courage material.
