And this is the part of the problem with society. Why don't you look at the message instead of just dismissing everything because you don't like one part of it? Do you realize how ignorant that is? We as a society have to stop judging what people say based on who they are. Of course that's a factor but you don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Plenty of other people use libraries. In fact, every time I go to any library, it is busy
That may be the case where you live but the few times I've been in New Orleans in recent years they've been mostly empty. Either way we're both making anecdotal statements.

Funny because every time I've been in a library, I go all the time to our local library with my kids for story time, people aren't in their reading, they're in there using the internet or printing something. So basically our libraries are Starbucks with Kinkos attached.
And we ask everybody in society to pay for that. I'm sorry but that just doesn't sit well with me.

Pretty much voided everything you said past this point
You know what's more ignorant than thinking everybody in our society shouldn't have to pay for book loaning clubs? Dismissing every single point a person makes because you don't like just one of them.

The empirical data available on library visits from the state library’s website disagrees with your anecdotal evidence. There have been statistically significantly more visits in 2017 (the latest year for which data is available) than in 2007. Why does it matter what resources people use at the library? Computer access is pretty essential and libraries provide a free way for everyone to have computer access. Tons of people also take advantage of the baby/toddler/youth programs libraries offer, As you seem to already know, libraries are more than book loaning clubs.

It isn't that I disliked your opinion, your opinion is factually wrong.
You think libraries just provide books. Maybe make a trip to one and see the services they offer.

I'm not arguing the value of libraries. I like the idea of libraries, I just don't like the idea of people who will never visit one having to help pay for them. I don't understand why most government services can't be ran like the Post Office is now. From what I understand, although they get subsidies they're not funded anymore with taxpayer dollars but instead are now self-sustaining.
It's a philosophical stance I take across the board when it comes to government services. Outside of a few services that by their very nature can't be paid for with user fees, like law enforcement or ones that everyone benefits from whether they utilize them or not, like military.

Do you mean simply property taxes, or ANYTHING like public officials as well?

Don’t care what the tax is, I’ll always vote no. frickers have plenty of tax money to go around. They need to do a better job directing where it goes, and more importantly, where it doesn’t.
So what's interesting, is that this proposal did exactly what you asked for. It is an attempt to "do a better job directing where it goes, and more importantly, where it doesn't"

I voted no. Although the city needs the money, local government will continue to mismanage the revenue. Our mayor demonstrated how untrustworthy she was with her city credit card use as a councilwoman and now she's like a panhandler asking for her "fair share". Who cares that we can't even collect the outstanding receivables for basic services like the S&WB, right??
On a related note, as my Jazzfest Friday turned into a family day at Jazzfest with my kids due to the water pipe bursting Uptown forcing school cancellation, I found myself in line next to two guys from New Hampshire. They had been in the city for a few days and couldn't believe the sales tax rate and assumed its was a perpetual boon for the city, given the steady tourist stream. They then asked if I take my kids out of school every year to attend Jazzfest. It was yet another moment of clarity, reinforcing the reality that the current group of local government officials are no better at managing this city than the previous ones and the apathy among its residents is at an all-time high.

Yes, 76% voted yes. Unofficial turnout was 9.4%, showing the well timed placement on the ballot by local officials and the apathy of local residents.

I don't know how you could read my posts and come away with the impression that I "sound beyond dumb".
Disagree with the point I'm trying to make? Sure. But "sound beyond dumb"?
Whatever makes you feel better about yourself, champ.
