While I agree with you we should never measure arbitrary and subjective value with real value, like taking money out of people's pockets under penalty of law.

The millage is expiring without this vote to extend it. Let it expire.

In the least I recommend renewing the JP Coroners millage. Goes towards support of those affected with mental health issues and sex assault.

Teachers have the lowest salaries in the region which is why they get a yes from me.

Q: The proposal on the ballot would increase property taxes in Jefferson Parish by 7.9 mills - that would mean taxes on a $200,000 home would increase by about $100 a year. That millage would pay for an average raise of about $3,000 for teachers and staff. Why do you believe Jefferson Parish teachers and staff should get a raise?

It's more than just a raise for teachers and support staff. It's about creating a better Jefferson. This last three years we've lost over 1,500 teachers in Jefferson Parish. We just can't get the outcomes that our kids deserve while losing that many teachers. Right now, about 24 percent of our classes are taught by teachers who are uncertified or out-of-area. And today we probably have 40 t0 50 classrooms throughout our parish where we've been unable to staff a teacher.

The parish is wasting millions on unoccupied buildings and various other nonsense. What happened to that EAst Jeff emergency room? The parish spent millions on a remodel and didn’t even finish it. Now the building sits vacant, under lease.

I’m not against teachers getting paid more, what I’m against is asking me for more money while continuing to piss it away.

We all should be for more fiscal responsibility. Stop dumping money into these vacant buildings and suddenly there’s 12million a year freed up for teachers.

Why would someone choose to NOT step foot in City Park? It’s probably the best part of living in New Orleans on any given day.

I agree, city park is awesome. I used to live on City Park Avenue and I also used to live a few blocks away. I've been around that Park my entire life. It's a gem

However, that doesn't change the fact that it should be self-sustaining. As should all government services. People who don't use those Services shouldn't have to pay for them.

How on board are you for paying an astronomical gas tax?

You don't know what you are talking about. JP Coroner has a separate budget from the parish and is in a separate building.

Libraries, fire departments, schools, police...

Sounds like an invoicing nightmare and also sounds like a shitty society.

Property taxes should only be voted on by those that own property

This is all it would take for them to have to start modifying those "best and worst states" lists to include US territories, so Louisiana could start coming in lower than Guam and Guantanamo Bay in quality of life.

Simpletons at least provide a solid chuckle, though.

They try that in St. Tammany too, but people have caught on and sent certain taxes to defeat multiple times consecutively in these stealth elections.

Yeah, STPSO has too damned many toys already. Pissed me off when they bought that old golf facility in Slidell and turned it into yet another command center. Screw those people.

I’m a City Park person who voted no. I love the park and NORD. I don’t want Audubon to continue to get taxpayer money.

Why?

You do realize City Park makes a lot of money on top of the money tax payers are already giving them?

Why shouldn’t Audubon continue to receive dollars?
