Seems kinda shady to have a vote on a Jazz Fest Saturday, a couple of weeks after the last vote.

That's why they do it. They know the supporters and those that benefit will be motivated to vote and the rest forget about it. They try that in St. Tammany too, but people have caught on and sent certain taxes to defeat multiple times consecutively in these stealth elections.

It’s a very deceptive vote. They are touting it as benefiting public parks only, but in reality it’s funnelijg more money to the Zoo and Aquarium which already charge admission fees.

Next commercial: vote may 4 to give more money to our parks and rec

Could have been an SNL skit

If I was there I would vote no.

What's it for again?

New Orleans voters are being asked to approve a parks and recreation tax proposal. This is not a new tax. The proposed millage would replace current millages collected on behalf of the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORD), Parks & Parkways, and the Audubon Commission. If voters approve, these three entities will continue to receive funds generated by the combined millage; in addition, New Orleans City Park, which is a state agency, will become a first-time recipient of the City's public funds.

It’s not a new tax. It’s a reallocation of the current millage already in place.

Isn’t the current millage set to expire in 2025 though? I don’t think Audubon should continue to receive any public money.

City park getting money out weighs the Audubon issue.

Watching the commercial While you're boiling water for your child's lemonade stand or driving past a tent city of bums, hobos, and addicts.

It's an insult, to anyone who pays attention, that they attach expiration dates to these taxes. They never let them expire, they always come back for an extension.

I voted at about 8:30 first person in my precinct to vote.

There are 8 precincts at my voting location, I was the only voter there at the time, two other people showed up for other precincts while I was there. This will be a record low turnout.

No. Not against giving to parks, but how they are billing this as 'just a renewal' is really just turning it into a permanent tax.

Audubon isn't exactly fighting it because they managed their money well and don't necessarily need it. The plan was for this bond issue to disappear. However to appease them Cantrell is giving them part of the permanent tax.

Correct but what they don't tell you is thats not the choice you're being given.

The choice isn't:

A. Only Audubon gets the existing millage

B. Other parks share the existing millage

The choice is actually:

A. Other Parks get the existing millage instead of only Audubon

B. The millage expires in a few years and your property taxes go down and these Parks can make up the money by charging user fees for people who actually use the parks instead of unfairly taxing everybody, some of who have never stepped foot in any of these parks.

Even if you don't use public parks, they bring a lot of value to a city.
