If you’re poor they just send you to jail and it’s no big deal because poor people love jail but if you have money you could lose your job and they take your money away

So, he got 5 years. I'm not usually one to scream "white privilege", but goddamn.

Honestly it's fricking stupid that it takes two years to deal with this. Right to a speedy trial my arse.

I'm pretty sure the convicted guy is happy it took this long. 2 more years he was walking free.

The right to speedy trial works perfectly. You have to invoke it, then the state has 60 days to try you or you're released.

His wife divorced him yet?
I believe the victim’s parents already filed a civil suite

That's still really light for similar cases. That woman posted on here a few days ago got 22 years. 5 years is the minimum sentence.

He seems like the type of guy who will do well in prison.

I agree with this.

This is something I never understood and I am sure it is more complicated than I realize, but why do some cases go to trail within a few months of whatever they are going to trail for, happened and some cases it can take years?

I told this story on here before but years ago there was a student worker working with us.. Good kid, father is a deacon, the kid was kind of quiet, in college, etc. There were a group that lived in his neighborhood (he lived in the better part of his neighborhood, but it still wasn't the best place) that had jumped him several times over the past several weeks. Long story short, the last time they jumped him, he went inside his house, got a gun and came outside and shoot the one guy that was instigating everything.

The trial was less than 2 months after it happened. He got life. But then you hear about murder cases that takes 2, 3 years.. What plays a factor in when cases go to trial?

Good. For the longest time, it looked as if he would walk. (Visual pun intended)
