It's not rewriting, it's taking down a statue because Louisiana and ultimately America is past that time and it shouldn't be representative of the state/country. Again, put them in museums. Why is this like pulling teeth for some people?
It's not about "hurt feelings, PC, etc". Louisiana shouldn't and won't be represented by figures who headed outdated, racist ideals. Not sure why this is so difficult to grasp.

It was totally pointless. The slaves IN THE UNION during the civil war weren't freed until AFTER the civil war. And it wasn't by the emancipation proclamation, but by constitutional amendment. The last slave to be freed was a union resident.
I always chuckle whenever anyone brings up the emancipation proclamation as a freeing mechanism and then go on to say I need to be educated about what it did.
Pure hilarity.
