Landrieu: Monuments are effort to re-write that history...cast an oppressive shadow over our city. Provide a sense of pride for Confederates

I'm at the council meeting on the Confederate monument vote where "Justice Christmas cookies" are being passed out.
I'd eat all of them

I call it honoring someone who stood for everything our country is against. Isn't that what a statue is? Recognizing a great historical figure?
If you think Lee stood against "everything our country is against" ... even the values held by the Union in 1860 ... then you also need to pick up a history book.
I was making this point earlier - everyone feels they need to take a stance on every political issue of the day even when they have zero background knowledge of the subject. You fall in this category.

No Mr Mayor, removing them is an effort to rewrite history.

Has a government scrubbing history ever ended well?

I would love to find out where this lobbying money and effort is coming from. Not from NOLA, I know that.

@MayorLandrieu says today is the day city council members must vote to have confederate monuments removed.

Man, this country is in a bad place right now.
Let us know here in South Carolina if LSU is going to vote to get rid of the cannon that fired on Ft. Sumter. We would like to have them back.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu asked the council to vote to remove the monuments. He got a standing ovation from the audience.
I wish I didn't have to work. I'm missing this amazing day in city government.

Well, at least you know who is in the audience and in favor of this.
