Poles and their low profile are rarely the problem in New Orleans. Its unmanaged tree canopy and falling debris causes many more poles/lines down than ones blown down.

I guess most people do not know FROM WHOM Entergy New Orleans took over.

It is election year posturing. The Mayor and most council members are good friends with Entergy New Orleans bigwigs. The AA head of Entergy New Orleans will be working to help Teedy get re-elected. Notice how they got the power turned on first back in places (NOLA East and Treme) full of Teedy's core voters. Need to keep them happy with Teedy.

Don't forget all the violent criminals that aren't going to jail now thanks to SJW judges and our SJW Soros D.A.

he city council and leadership have just as much blame to bear as Entergy does.
That won't stop them from blaming Entergy.

The audits are non-stop. SOx, NERC, FERC, NRC, NIOS... I could go on. If you want to add to the regulatory overhead and increase your bill, fine though. Up to you.
Found the Entergy executive.

Despite the name... it was never a government entity.
NOPSI was formed in the mid 1920s as a subsidiary down the line of General Electric. In the 40s NOPSI and some other utility companies including LP&L were spun off into Middle South.
Middle South eventually changed their name to Entergy.
In fact... NOPSI used to run the streetcars and buses into the mid 80s when it was actually transferred to a public agency, the RTA.
So we actually have experience with going from private to government entity.

I'd be open to kicking out Entergy in exchange for another provider.
Entergy owns the transmission lines and the power stations in the area. Plus they are one of the few companies that have the credentials to operate a nuclear power station. Entergy does suck arse but you baws in Louisiana are stuck with them.

I'd be interested in learning about if another private utility company could take over.
I have no interest in the city taking over.

Would be solved with underground lines..
Entergy just doesn’t want to spend the coin to do it.

The plant was up and operating and providing electricity to NOLA East less than 48hours after the storm… what else would you like done?
Posted on 9/14/21 at 3:54 pm to brass2mouth
It’s not that Entergy doesn’t want to spend, it’s the fact that all that cost would go back into the rate base and we as customers would foot the bill. Also, last I checked the water table in SE LA is very high, electricity and water doesn’t mix, this exponentially increases the cost of underground construction.
I personally believe, that better tree canopy and regulations need to be instituted. No trees within falling distance of a power line. That alone comes with significant fall out.

There was some smoke a few years ago about Jim Bernhard’s group acquiring the utilities for Lafayette but I’m not sure what eventually happened with it. They were buying utility companies all over the south at one point. You would need a company like that to buy out the city and take it over as allowing the city to try to run something like that on their own would be a massive failure

Deregulate it like Texas did.

Somewhere in the neighborhood of same being done re: over Mobile Bay...

Deregulating doesn’t solve anything. As mentioned in previous post, LA has some of the lowest KWh rates in the country. If you deregulate, that cost will increase. Majority of the infrastructure is still owned by the Entergy umbrella of service providers.

Assuming we did... that would still leave Entergy in charge of the lines and poles... like Centerpoint is in Houston.

Entergy doesn't give a shite here. They get to pass through expenses with a fixed margin basically. The council and the rate payers are the ones who need to decide to pony up the $8-12M per mile to bury those transmission lines.
