"They can't raise prices because of a major event in town"
That is complete BS. $30 flat rate fee for a Pelicans game

He's certainly more articulate than what I heard from the opposition. I would just expect something more polished.
These are normal every day citizens taking the stand. These aren't Uber employees. It's nerve racking speaking in front of hundreds of people including people watching online. yet they are still 10x more professional and have sound arguments compared to the taxi lobbyists

Ah, I forgot that everyone in Metairie parks in the street when their driveway is empty. In that case, they won't be able to use the 1 man operation, and will have to stick to the driver + 2 in the back. They can still get one of those lifters, but it would just be on the back instead of dumping over the top like the ones in BR
I wonder when the meter maids are gonna get Segways like the water guys in BR? IIRC, some parts of BR have electrical meters that broadcast a signal so the guys don't even have to get out of their trucks.
In the area of utilities, BR is up-to-date with the newest stuff

The fricking cabbies consider a Saturday a major event and gauge the crap of people.
If you don't want to pay the high prices Uber has during a surge then don't use it.

I was asked if I found them to be articulate. I said what I thought. I said nothing to criticize the validity of their arguments. Get the bug out of your butt.
Why is surge pricing such a hang up? You understand what you're paying. Why is this a problem? Because it's not fair to the consumer? Take a cab. Because it's not fair to the cabs? Screw the cabs. Maybe they should revise their business model.

Some cabbie from Nigeria wanted to charge us a flat rate of $25 at 6 on a Sunday morning to go from The Roosevelt to my buddy's place off Broadway. He turned the meter on when he realized we weren't dumbass tourists.

Widespread systemic failure. Teachers, governments, schools, and more.
And kids are assholes.
Posted on 7/29/14 at 12:53 pm to Matisyeezy
Doesn't every single parking structure around the dome already do surge pricing?
Posted on 7/29/14 at 12:55 pm to fightin tigers
taxi drivers don't want uber in nola because it threatens their "service"
it's as simple as that. all the other bullshite is bullshite.
ETA:and the taxi companies have lined the politicians pockets and uber has not

Great mindset. Really encourages tourism in an area that's very dependent on it.
Also, you remind me of this guy:

He's having to explain supply and demand right now

The last Uber speak was solid…he was on point and handled the questions very well…specifically about de-regulating the industry.
Posted on 7/29/14 at 12:59 pm to LSUzealot
He's already answered these questions. At least, essentially.
