Well that's fricking bull shite.

That is some bullshite. There is no minimum in Boston that I am aware of. I have taken a number of rides in the $4-$5 range.

if by people you mean large multi-billion dollar greedy corporations then sure.

that's the problem with America…all you people wanna spit supply and demand out….at some point, where do you draw the line with ethics?

yes by definition of the Econ 101 course, this is all perfectly okay….but think outside the box for just a minute

and no one has yet to answer this question: would you be okay with restaurants charging double the entree price during peak hours? I guarantee you the top restaurants in the world could easily do this and see more profits…it's supply and demand so why don't they do it????

Most of the time when I'm getting a cab its not to get home, but from one part of town to the next. Usually that's not a $15+ ride.

To get all the way home I'm sure it would be.

dude charging 1,500 for a fricking hotel room is not supply and demand. it's unfrickingethica

How'll rooms are a limited commodity in an area, right?

The hotel wants to fill every room, right?

If people are willing to pay 1500 , and they full the hotel, I'd argue they under charged

If they could do it they would. These places do research and look at past sales when setting prices. And, unlike you, the owners realize that there's nothing unethical about setting prices based on demand. This isn't someone stranded in a desert meeting up with someone that has more water than they can handle. You're talking rides to Saints games and lunch at Galatoires.

Uber isn't walmart

they aren't some crazy huge company selling necessary goods and fricking over poor people.

I dont even know if they are making a profit

surge pricing is a TEMPORARY thing that happens SOMETIMES in order to increase supply to meet demand.

I'm one of the more liberal people on the OT and I'm not as upset as you are

Restaurants have lunch menus vs dinner menus, happy hours, and nightly specials (especially on slower week nights as opposed to busy weekend nights).. so yes, their prices do vary.

there are some bars and restaurants experimenting right now with dynamic pricing.

I don't know how it's doing, but we'll find out

Now, will this require the Uber drivers to start all fares at $15 and run the meter from $15, or will Uber start at $0, and just charge you $15 if you don't hit the $15 min of your fare?

It's deranged logic.

Apply this to his profession, where his wages stagnate despite increased demand for his labor, and watch his tune change.

This is akin to the restaurants in Nola offering extremely cheap deals during the summer (less busy) months.
