Seems that their subs are now capable of accurately and successfully firing ballistic missiles..

quote:

North Korea’s reportedly successful launch of a ballistic missile from a submarine signals an advancement in defense technology and a potential new capability for the communist state.

If they come close to any thing we care about they should be made into an artificial reef in a tragic power failure.

NK is 1/6 the size of Texas and has the stupidest fricking leader in the world. There are a lot of other countries to worry about. I'd worry about Grenada before I would worry about NK.

The problem with NK is they're like the freshman who thinks he's good enough to start on varsity. They need to practice a little before getting on the field.

Estimates of NK missile ranges are already reaching the West Coast, let alone US based in SK, Japan, Guam, and Alaska.

I'm not saying they'd use them or that they could deliver a lot of them accurately. Even if they did, we'd wipe them off the map... But it's no joke.

To the guy that said you're more worried about Grenada: NK has one of the largest chemical stockpiles in the world and a very large army. Is it the best equipped, best trained? Etc. Hell no, but quantity is a quality of its own so don't mistake a 2nd war in Korea as being some easy, few casualty affair.

And that doesn't even include considering what China may or may not do.

Anyone concerned over the upcoming winter Olympics in South Korea? Would this little nut job in the north actually attempt something?

I do believe I read somewhere that China and NK are renewing and strengthening relations.

They also have a million+ person army, and we have 30k+ American soldiers that are supposed to stop them.

I'd make a fair wager their families care. Whether or not you care about American troops is up to you.

They'd be well past Seoul before we could even make a dent. I'd imagine it would be another Pusan perimeter ordeal...

They wouldn't even make it to the suburbs of Seoul.

The US may only have 30K but the South Koreans have 600K+ and hold a considerable advantage in terms of technology.

NK's biggest threat is the 1M+ sets of artillery that could rain down on Seoul from well within the NK border

I bet that NK submarine is about as quiet as a 1970's dishwasher

ETA: NK lost a sub back in March

If by that you mean getting out of the silo and not having it fall right back on you, then yes I agree.

Didn't they lose one of their subs one time?

I'm not confident that a North Korean sub could accurately find the bottom of the ocean if it tried.

given how they stretch the truth a tad bit, I believe this was more along the lines of firing a bottle rocket from a pirogue

This plus the fact that a good bit of NK's army is:

1) Mostly used for police work and/or working in the fields.
2) Has zero combat experience.
3) Is probably incomptent anyway.

The real danger posed by stuff like this is that NK's missiles are sold to other nations. They might even be willing to sell a nuke and a missile to ISIS, for example.
