...and a few other segments.

Nissan's siege on the commercial van segment didn't go exactly as planned, and after a nearly a decade of opportunity to steal the show from popular Ford, General Motors and Fiat Chrysler offerings, the Japanese automaker will reportedly hoist the white flag.

According to an Automotive News report on Monday, Nissan will pull the NV line of commercial vans from the market in the near future. It will include the smaller NV200 and the larger, Titan pickup-based NV series. The report cited a source close to the decision who summed up the decision: "We will exit" the commercial van segment.

These were mostly based on the Nissan Titan pickup. How much longer before they cancel full sized trucks? Like the vans, the Nissan Titan pickup is struggling to gain market share even against older entries.

The automaker last month detailed its turnaround plan that will see the company ax numerous nameplates globally and retreat from a volume-driven, expansionist mindset set in place under ex-CEO and international fugitive Carlos Ghosn.

Not all hope is lost for Nissan. Nissan is finally bringing out a new Frontier pickup though to compete with the Chevy Colorado, Toyota Tacoma, and Ford Ranger. The new frontier should be out next year.

I was hoping this thread could be a small break from discussions on the election year wedge issues that the media is pushing.

Nissan hasn't made a decent car since the 80s under the Datsun name.

Poor marketing choice, no one NVs anyone who has to drive a Nissan commercial van.

Should have called it the “WOKE”.

Then it’d have been too PC not to have cancelled it.

Nissan was never really competitive without a chassis cab model.

Ford and GM kept their old vans around for 20+ years with only minor updates. But they always offered more wheelbase choices, more cab variants, more service centers, and better reliability than Nissan.

I’m surprised Toyota and VW aren’t in this market segment.

Good, they're terrible. Hopefully Toyota brings their commercial van here.

In the US, you mean.

They’re quite competent in many foreign markets in this sector.

I saw a Peugeot full-sized commercial van on I-12 last week with Nuevo Laredo plates on it. I did a double-take.

Come to find out it’s called a “Boxer”.

That's a rebadged Fiat Ducato van. Same as what Chrysler/Ram is selling now in the US. It's front drive based, which is an unusual setup for a full sized van.

Naw Baw. I got 2000 Frontier crew cab with over 350k miles and still runs like a top. Can't speak for other models but that truck has been great. I still drive it to work everyday to keep miles down on my newer truck.

I had a titan crew cab for 13 years. Loved that truck. Wish I bought another one.

Nissan's problem is that almost all full sized truck buyers are very satisfied with their vehicles.

Same with vans. The Ford Econoline and Chevrolet Express are routinely kept on the road for 10-15 years and 200,000+ miles. They benchmarked those things instead of trying to innovate.
