I mean, all things considered the fact that they recovered the trailer is pretty impressive.

Looks like the trailer jack caused that. Popped it off the ball once it hit the slope of the ramp, pretty funny actually. I've never seen someone have it down while the trailer is attached to the vehicle.

This. I laughed at first and then watched in amazement as they recovered the damn thing.

98% brawn, 1% brain, 1% other. Sounds about right.

One of several reasons that you always have the trailer chains hooked up. Had they done that simple task this wouldn't have happened.

Always launch a boat on a slope with a truck.

so, did the trailer jack cause this or ... did the person who had it down while attached to the vehicle cause this?

I've always wondered how much of a disaster it would be if the trailer popped off while being hauled down the interstate and the chains were still attached. Would the tongue dig into the pavement and flip the trailer? Would the trailer cause the vehicle to wreck?

I always hook up the chains, and I cross them because my father always crossed them, but I hope to never need them.

The guy towing out the boat by hand is a horse.

Also, I saw two duty weapons in the water.

I was next to a baw on Florida Blvd some years back that had his jon boat come unhitched. He correctly had the safety chains on and the tongue slammed into the tailgate of his POS datsun pickup and then jerked back and forth. Better than coming loose and hitting another car though.

That's the right way to do it

Because they form a "net" under the tongue in case it comes loose and catches it before it hits the ground.

Ive always assumed the cross would theoretically keep the tongue off the road while keeping the swing to a minimum if it came off. Regardless I'm sure it is still a disaster.
