Today, we're proud to announce the future home of Port Alpha: Brownsville, Texas.
Our next-generation shipyard moves from vision to reality through a planned investment of more than $3 billion to establish one of the world's most advanced shipyards, built for software-defined shipbuilding and autonomous maritime systems.
Port Alpha is expected to generate more than $160 billion in regional economic impact for Cameron County and $264.5 billion for the State of Texas, while creating up to 10,000 direct jobs — which makes it one of the largest economic development projects in modern Texas history.
More than a shipyard, Port Alpha represents a new model for American shipbuilding — combining advanced manufacturing, software-defined production, and autonomy at unprecedented scale. We're proud to continue building in Texas.

The Port of Brownsville has been open for business for a while. One of the biggest projects has been the scrapping and recycling of decommissioned Navy warships.
Shown is the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk CV-63.
The final voyage of the John F Kennedy CV-67 as she is towed into the Port of Brownsville for her dismantling.

Well Texas scored low on “inclusiveness” so they’re out of luck.

Yea, but Louisiana gets data centers that employs dozens.

Man, it’s a great thing Louisiana didn’t need those jobs

It’s sad that the final days of the Kitty Hawk and JFK were spent in fricking Brownsville.

News flash, if you're not working in Louisiana, it's because you don't want to.

That’s a shitload for that region

I'm sure a lot of former crewmembers felt the same way.

Louisiana has identified as a welfare state. We don't want anything but pity and scraps off the tables of other states

It sounds great until the Longshoremen Union moves in.

Not really. The shitty beaches in Turkey and India where they break old tankers look like something from another planet

A lot of transportation/logistics employment laws are dictated by federal law not state.
I’m not familiar with longshoremen laws but airline pilots, train conductors, airline dispatchers, etc fall under the RLA.
I’m assuming longshoremen have similar laws.

Brownsville is really the only place you can scrap ships in the US. I’m glad to see they are going to start building ships. They likely won’t have crazy environmental regulations that have hurt other US shipyards.

The same company recently purchased the ship builder on Hwy 90 around Franklin. Right across from Metal Shark. They are currently doing a huge expansion there. I was hoping the super port would be in built at that location but there are a ton of people currently employeed at that shipyard and a ton more will be hired once construction of the additional facilities is completed.

Longshoremen dont build ships they just unload them.

All those jobs will be filled with Mexicans that live in Matamoros just like the ship breaking yard.
