I agree with your points.

As for college, tragedies involving college students are almost a weekly occurrence.

For example, why they are trying to shut Tigerland down and holding those establishments responsible for students' underage drinking or overdrinking. They don't have the self-regulation capacity yet, survival mode OFF.

Thank God, there were no cell phones in the 80's & 90's.
You’re an idiot if you think kids didn’t die doing stupid shite in the 80s and 90s.

I always love those kinds of threads. MCAT threads, LSAT threads, ACT threads, etc.

The OT is like a who's who among the smartest and most elite people this planet has to offer.

And to the OP, this is a horribly sad story, I can't imagine what his poor parents must be going through right now. RIP

Looks like he was treading water fine and not really panicking or struggling to stay up. Then he turns his back to the boat and goes off into the darkness. There must be another video because this one starts off with him in the water.

IF, there was no Instagram, IF, there were no phone cameras, This would have never happened.

You think nobody did stupid shite before camera phones were invented? I’m just glad they weren’t yet as popular when I was that age

Exactly. Now take that and add in Insta, cell phone videos and you have the perfect storm.

There is probably less people doing drunk stupid shite now due to cell phone video, drinking age enforcement, and lawyers.

Let's not post that video. Think of the parents and siblings. A kid at U High probably has parents who are LSU fans and read this board.

this is definitely not the time or place to post a video of incident and hopefully it doesn't end up on a message board

I'm not saying helicopter parents are doing it right but turning a kid loose at 18 comes with legitimate worries.

That's because there is no preparation. My brothers and I were working at men's jobs when we were 14. We were Paper Boys when we were 11 or 12.

That means waking ourselves up on Sunday mornings at 4 AM, riding our bikes in the dark, even if it was 30 degrees and raining, folding our papers and delivering them. At 6:30 AM we were eating donuts, at a bakery, that we bought with our own money. Can you imagine today's 12 year olds doing that?

By 18 we were ready for adulthood. We were still wild, but we knew how to handle ourselves.

The video I saw shows him jumping from start to finish. I agree that he appeared be treading water fine and not struggling to stay up. There had to be a current or undertow or something.

It could be as simple as it's all lit up as soon as you hit the water. Then the reality sets in as the boat keeps going and it's pitch black and a hell of a current. It's not a bass boat. I expect it took a little bit to turn it around for a man overboard distress call.

!00% agree. Anyone with a video should not post it anywhere.

No, but it’s also not as safe as it was back when you were a paper boy. I wouldn’t want my son riding his bike in BR at 4 am at the age of 11 or 12.

The news article I read said he was 13? I’m guessing that’s a typo.

My heart goes out to that poor family.

IDK I just hope they recover a body so the family can bury him.
