We didn’t show my 13yo the video, but did explain to her what happened. Told her stupid decisions can lead to catastrophic endings.
In the end it really doesn’t matter if it was sharks, currents, prop wash, or anything else. What killed him was taking a dare, and jumping off of a moving boat at night.

Is the pirate boat a real boat or a gussied up barge with engines? The only picture I've seen sure didn't look like any multihulled cat I've seen.
Single props or multiple props to move it through the murk?
And about the lifejackets on board: aren't some of them supposed to have powerful strobe lights that start shining when they hit the water?

After watching this clip a second and third time, it appears that there is, in fact, a shark in the water. At the 3-second mark of the original video, it certainly appears to be a shark making an unusual "S wave" next to the boat, curling back and swimming towards the overboard victim. (Check upper-left at 3 second mark of video) You can even make out, what appears to be, a dorsal, and possibly even its tail. The timing of the victims decision to start swimming away from the life-buoy matches the timing of the shark coming to surface and making that "S-wave" curl towards the victim. Here's a slowed down version I'll link to below. As you watch it, notice the shark surfacing and turning towards the overboard victim at the 14 second mark, just before the victim starts swimming AWAY from the boat:

More than a barge, less than a cruise ship. Looks kind of like they build a party barge superstructure on top of a typical oil industry workboat.

Yes, you can see shark swimming next to the boat and charge course towards him. At the same time he starts swimming the other way.

Also if you look at the video at the end there were lights not to far in the distance. They weren’t that out in the open ocean. No body was found so he was most likely eaten by sharks

This makes me think...did they have an emergency plan for this type of scenario. Thinking if they transport thousands of drunk kids each week, they had to think this could happen at some point, either by accident or deliberately, actually surprised if it hasn't happened before. You'd think they'd have some kind of safety protocol to start shining lights, throwing as many flotation devices as possible, keeping eyes on the man overboard, etc.

Having teenagers is somewhat of a craps shoot. You do your best and pray that they make good choices. Or at least that the poor choices they make don't cause lifelong consequences or death. Unfortunately there are always some that don't make it out of those years unscathed.

Well damn. I thought all the shark talk was stupid until I saw this video. Now I don’t know what to think.
