It’s an internet message board where posters routinely mock people on news stories.

If some thug in BR accidentally shot himself with a gun, the jokes would be flying.

It hits harder when you know the family, but that thug had family too…

Given this is the Bahamas, kinda hard to imagine a boat that holds 100s of people wouldn’t have an epirb or similar device and lifeboat ready to deploy instantly for this type of situation? Toss a life ring, then deploy the lifeboat and epirb? That’s $1,500 at most of equipment.

This is sad. I don’t know anything about this “booze cruise,” but don’t understand why we think it’s cool to do those. Mixing kids, excitement and alcohol isn’t a good thing, and there are other ways to celebrate. As our kids “age up, and can cruise or go into bars, or, whatever, that’s their choice. As a parent, I wouldn’t be paying for this passage nor encouraging it. Take a nice trip to the mountains or beach. Haven’t read all the comments, so don’t know if he’s been found. I’m praying he is.

Terrible

Brings back bad memories of my senior trip. We went to Cancun on a snorkeling/booze cruise on the way back. They over crowded our boat by about 150 people and when we got about 5 miles out we started sinking. Captain and crew all abandoned us out there.

One girl from Texas lost her life that day after she got hit by a jet ski while trying to swim to another boat.

I feel for the kids/parents that had to witness this. Absolutely gut wrenching

Theyre 18 and have every right to make that choice. They also have the right to join the military and vote too so dont you dare put these parents down over that. Just disgusting.

You clearly dont know enough about the situation to even comment.

I know people down there and I know the family and I can't get any news. Just a bunch of rumors.

I know a number of the kids on the boat and a number of the parents that were waiting at the dock for them to come back in, as well as parents here in BR waiting to hear from their kids saying they are ok. It will take a while for all families involved to move on from this.
did he jump in or fall?

I haven't googled it today but the only blurb I saw, at least up until yesterday, was just a short article from WBRZ

Right. Yesterday I had heard they found him. That was not true it seems, unfortunately, based on what was in the news this morning.

Very well said.
I got the call last night, and no, his body had not been recovered.
We pray this family can get some sort of closure.

In the 1980s I was working on a 165ft ship in the North Pacific. It was around 3am and we were dead in the water retrieving some scientific equipment out the water. Calm seas, everyone on deck was wearing a life vest with glow sticks activated. First mate was on upper deck with radio watching the operations.

Someone fell overboard.

Life ring was thrown immediately. A powerful search light was put on the guy in the water. It was amazing how quick he drifted out the light and we were losing site of him. Mate ordered a full reverse churning up a ton of water over the fantail. The guy popped up and someone grabbed him and pulled him back on deck.

Anyone that goes in the water at night in the open ocean is very lucky if they live or are ever found. The place is just a big dark emptiness and it’s impossible to see even when precautions are taken. If the boat was underway then it’s much harder.

I pray for this family.

It’s more of a self-policed policy if that makes sense. Certainly anyone can send their kid to a resort unaccompanied if they wished, but no one does.

I have been knowing the family since I was in the first grade at Shenandoah Elementary school back in the mid 70’s and graduated HS with Will’s younger brother. Awesome family all the way around.

Keep the family in your thoughts and prayers!
