Why is it that the older you get,the less likely you would fly in helicopters, parachute out of planes, BASE jump, etc?
Seems counterintuitive. Figure the younger you are, the more you have to lose if something were to happen.

The older you are the more valuable the dwindling number of days you have left become. Spending time with your family becomes more important than a lot of things that were on your bucket list, on the other hand some things like "normal" skydiving are not as risky as people think.

The only way you could get me in a helicopter is if I was unconscious and needed to be airlifted for immediate medical attention.
They legitimately freak me the frick out.

Younger people feel bulletproof. As you get older, there are things I need life that become more important to you than proving yourself. You find more pleasure in the simpler things in life.

I agree with this sentiment. The thread right below this discusses punching celebrities in the face. Besides, nothing we type will bring them back.
And I would have hit that.

I was pretty nervous the first time. It's a rush though to break over the top of a mountain and watch it suddenly open up 3,000 feet below you.

Groom’s sister married a guy I know. Their family is absolutely loaded. Terrible tragedy.

I am a stats type person so I pulled up some data, the helicopter in this accident was a Bell model 206, there have been numerous variants built by Bell like 206B, 206H,etc. since its inception in 1962, through 2017 Bell produced a total of 7300 helicopters of all variants. According to the NTSB database since its inception in 1962 208 have been destroyed, some of those were destroyed in situations other than crashes such as hanger fires, storm damage. How does this compare to a fixed wing airplane? The Beech King Air also has twin turbine powerplants, and is a widely used general aviation aircraft. There have been a total of 3100 produced with 142 fatal crashes, a crash rate almost double the Bell 206 helicopter.

Pretty sure he has already beat it once.
Roger is good people, but I can understand not appreciating sarcasm in this thread. I learned a while ago not to mock anyone from TX, LA, MS, or AL in a death thread because someone here likely knows them and if that person is an admin they will frick your arse up

One would think he could have cleaned under his nails before having his engagement picture taken.

I suspect that a higher % of helicopters were flown by professional pilots.

Fatal crash rate for motorcycles is something like 75 in every 100000. OT loves to harp on donorcycles.
Don’t see this as a terrible tragedy, this is just a sad accident cause of the wedding. Same way I see motorcycle fatalities even when they are friends. I ride, I know the risks when getting on two and know it could easily be my last day every time I throw a leg over. It’s just something you live with when you travel in not as safe transportation.

This fricking thread gave me nightmares about being in a helicopter crash last night.
Don’t eat late while reading the OT!

Over 7000 King Airs (all variants) have been produced. They have flown a combined 40 million plus flight hours. One of the safest propeller driven aircraft every made.

OT is a macabre. Every time I venture over here there is some gawdawful tale of woe and misery.
Kids getting eaten by dogs.
Massive car wrecks
People missing.
Bodies found
People here must relish in the misery of others
Makes people feel better about their lives. They can look in the mirror and say at least I didn't go down in a helicopter today. Just messed up human nature.

The shittiest part is it was his grandfather's(family run company's) helicopter and personal pilot flying it. Just found out Will Byler is Bill Byler's grandson of WT Byler construction company. If you are in the industrial construction industry in the Houston area, you know who WT Byler is.
